O-ring chains are already lubed, that's the whole point of the O-Ring. All you need to do is keep it clean, Wd40 works pretty good for that and doesn't get past the seals any better than kerosene. Maxima chain cleaner if its real dirty, then I displace the rinse water with WD-40( which is its actual intended use).

The pins of a chain hold the outside link plates together. The bushings hold the inside links together. The rollers are the piece that fits over the bushing and touch the sprockets.

O-rings on a chain hold grease on the inside, between the pin and the bushing, but they don't help with wear on the outside, between the bushing and the roller.

I think we can all agree that clean is better than dirty, lubed is better than dry, clean and lubed is best.

Bicycle chain clean/lube discussions make oil threads look like child's play.
Some guys will spend more on their "this is the only way to do it" process than the cost of the chain. It's high-larious how uppity these crackas get over their opinions on clean/lubing $50 chains.

total BS, wives tale. been usin nothin but wd40 for many years. chains on my 2 r6's would get a new chain at beginning of a season. we'd hit with one rotation of wd40 when the weekend was over to keep rust away. that's it. they lasted all year, then i'd put em on my dirt bikes for many hours.. i change chains on the dirt bikes about 70-80 hours. 1 rotation of wd 40 after a ride. nothin else.

all sticky lubes do, is attract dirt... an o-ring chain is sealed. you can't get lube in there if you wanted to.

Perfect image for this thread, I'm stealing that one.

I think WD-40, or any petroleum based product "could" eventually damage very cheap rubber products but I highly doubt any decent motorcycle chain with their typically nitrile o-rings fall into that category.

I knew 2 different racers with wera that did this.Long before I met them but they both lost some digits! Hard to believe, and harder to believe they admit to doing it!!
