A guy I work with has one of these BMW cruisers and is on his 3rd set of front brake rotors. He goes to a mechanic I trust (Roland of Spare Parts Co. in Philadelphia) who says that the calipers are working okay. Anyone else heard about this problem? Know of any aftermarket rotors?
BMW rotors Braking makes "wave" rotors for the R1200C's, We (Country Rode BMW, Fairport NY ) have installed them on a couple of bikes, no problems. Jake
Warpage. My first thought was seized calipers, but the mechanic says they're fine. Now I'm wondering if it's just a crappy component.
The components are fine when well maintained. Has the fluid been bled properly? No old fluid still in the calipers.
Again, the mechanic says he's been all through it, changed fluid, etc. If it's not the rotors, the next place I'd go is the rider. I wouldn't be surprised if there's something he's not telling me.
rotors You can get them from Parts Unlimited part number, 1710-0007 MSRP $182.95each. you will need 2 .Jake
What year/model R1200C does he have? The last two models years have Integral ABS which calls for organic pads. My '04 GS has these and the front rotors are still the full thickness at 41k and the pads will probably make it to 50k. Something sounds amiss. Tell your buddy to check with beemer boneyard, Good peeps from what I hear: http://www.beemerboneyard.com/brakerotors.html
Changed it from the master cyl to the bleeder sure but, did he compress the pistons into the caliper and get the black brake fluid out of the calipers? That is likely where the problem is. Changing rotors only addresses the symptom, not the problem. I'll be dam if I would put $400.00 worth of rotors on until I have addressed the problem. BTW, new rotors, new pads, everytime. Rotors must be cleaned thoroghly and pads broken in properly or you can still run into problems like, warping rotors.
