As in balancing them? Yes, in most cases. There were cases where we had bad chassis, and connecting on both ends caused a hum,I belive it was a Blose system. You do know what BOSE stands for?
My rough idea for my new set up: Keep my Denon 3800 DVD/ DVD A player for the for seeable future. B&W 703 fronts with B&W 705 with the HTM7 center. (I may go with 4 705's, I haven't decided). An outlaw LMF-1 sub (this might be a porblem since it's down firing and my floors are carpeted). A Bryston 9B SST amp A Rotel RSP-1068 pre amp TV? No real idea at this point. Maybe a KD-34XBR960 since Sony discontinued the 40". Still very early, but the above have all impressed me.
Eddie Use good cables especially for a long run like you need. I use XLO cables in my system. They aren't cheap ($1000 for the 3 meter cable to go from the surround processor to the center and main channel amps) Using good cables will audibly sound better. P.S. How is your dad feeling?
Yeah I'll have to get good cables. I'd say I have a high end system. Not your typical Best Buy system. My dad's doing good. He heals up quick for an old guy. Going to pick up my center channel speaker today. Hopefully see what kind of cables they have at this place as well. All they do is custom installations. When I went in, I wasn't sure if they took walk in customers at first.
You might have said that in your original post. You could have saved me and slow & scared a few posts 30ft? No equipment rack?
Well at least I know you know what you're talking about. I've got a rack for everything. The HD TV is about 15 feet away. 20 ft would be safe when considering wire routing. Two Paradigm tower speakers are on each side of the TV (so roughly the same distance, which I may or may not have enough speaker wire for). One rear speaker will be only a few feet away. The 2nd will be about 30 feet away (arg!). The sub is a foot away and the center channel speaker will be above the TV. The other TV/audio output is in the kitchen/bar, which is 15 feet away as the crow flies. The wire is going to have to run through the attic. I was just checking out .. http://www.pimfg.com/local_cat_a.as...e&sub_type=1&secondary_desc=Audio+Video+Cable Doesn't look the same quality as Monster stuff ..
http://www.axiomaudio.com/coaxial.html Good quality cable, at even better prices I think its $80 for 35 feet. other lengths available
That's bad. In theory you can compensate with the digital delay feature of your processor, but the reality is that it's probably not going to sound very good, and will spoil the "surround" illusion. Can you stand-mount the speaker closer (much closer) to your seating position? OK, so here's an issue - if you run wire through the attic it has to be certified for in-wall use, or you're violating code. You have two choices - the LEGAL one is to use in-wall-certified wire. The not-so-legal one is to run regular wire, and tear it out before you move out of your house.
I've done installs in Michigan.I belive there is no code. No conduit,Romex[sp] is ran everywhere. Eddie, I have some books and notes from some shows on doing a proper Home Theater set up.Or go to the library. No sense having a good system, that's set up wrong. Several things to consider, what's more important, listening to music, or watching tv?
That's what kills me is the markup. I know the cables are so absurdly priced, I hate to buy them. Making them myself (or having Gary do it ) it becoming a better idea .. Gary .. audio or video .. tough call .. I listen to music more, but I want a movie to sound shweeeeet. (technically speaking)
Romex is a brand name, not a cable type. The cable type is called NMS (Non-Metallic Sheathed), and it's code-compliant for in-wall use. The "code" is the NEC, which stands for National Electric Code.
