Looking at the possibility of getting one, but to be honest I know no one that has one to see there thoughts. Whats the beeb got to share?
Most fun street bike I’ve ever ridden. I have a MT-10SP on the way for my personal street bike. Ridden a MT-09 quite a bit too. I prefer the 10 a little. The power is ridiculous, but great around traffic.
I test rode one. It's really fun and the R1 engine in that chassis is an absolute tree stump pulling hoot. Ergonomics were nice too. As was visibility. If you intend to do any track time on it, you'll likely want to think about rear sets. That said, the Champ School instructors have no problem hustling them around as-is.
Thank you for the feedback. Ive had a R1M and FZ09 and was curious since I have never ridden one. Did not even think about Champ School. Now its just left to finding a deal on one
I'm not sure where you are located but a friend of mine is selling his 2020. Standup guy that corners low. https://www.facebook.com/marketplac...wse_serp:c731a2dc-ad03-41a3-a95e-4ecc5a63323c
Same concept, but I'm betting the Crossplane R1 motor is a bit better than the one in the old FZ1. Another one to consider is a GSXS1K or one of its variants... still kicking myself a bit for selling mine.
Motor is so great. Good ergos, all the parts work, just close your eyes when you walk up to it and get on.
I haven't redden one, but I've put tires on those teal, aqua, whatever color wheels that they had in Champ school. I like those wheels enough to consider buying a streetbike I don't need.
And that is a good thing. I took my second gen FZ1 on a two month ride across Mexico a few years back. No regrets about the bike choice. Had three FZs over the years. Am considering MT for next years bike trip.
Did the FZ1 have an R1 frame ? I don't think it was as aggressive as the MT-10 is. I rode a 2018 and really liked it. The new SP must be even better!
Quick google search returned: The Yamaha MT-10 has a 17-liter fuel tank and a fuel range of up to 155 miles. I think I can live with that. Have a spare gallon emergency jug.
Top 3 most fun bikes I have ever ridden (see profile pic). I'm tiny, and it's just too tall of a bike for me on the street, but I imagine it would be an absolutely perfect street bike with plenty of capability for the occasional track day. The bike I rode had a few suspension mods and handled phenomenally well at the track. Of course, that crossplane platform also sounds amazing.
They say the MT has a frame "derived" from the R1 frame. Whatever that means. My experience is that it had a much better frame and suspension that the 1st gen FZ1 I rode. Never rode a 2nd gen.
My riding pal had a ‘17 that had the must-have ECU reflash on it. On road trips he could barely get 105-110 miles out of a tank but thankfully two of us were on Tuonos which are just as thirsty. Brutal range which ultimately lead him to sell it. Imo - peach of a motor, stock fuelling was horribly snatchy, bars were way too high (same as older MT09’s), and brakes were below average. He had to replace the stock seat too as it was really uncomfortable.
I’ve ridden several days with an MT owner. It will barely cross 110mi, per tank, which was no big deal. However, we had to plan around gas stations. They can be outfitted with way more accoutrements than the tank range will allow.
I’ve put a couple thousand miles on a 2022 MT10. Awesome motor and sounds even with the stock exhaust. Brakes are a bit lackluster, but the quick shifter and auto blipper are sublime. Chinesium midpipes are available on FleaBay.
