Since getting the watch bug 5 years ago and getting my Speedy, any real desire to get more watches has faded (thankfully, lol?). I do occasionally wear it to work but to be honest most of the time my wrist is still bare. I did pick up the Hamilton 'Murph in that timeframe, but no other watches have really connected with me since. Only person who ever noticed and commented what was on my wrist was a bartender who also had on a Hamilton field watch.
I've always found that most people don't even notice a watch. And those who do probably just think that it is a $200 Seiko or something. "Nice watch!" I have had a few zoom in on one of my Omegas knowing full well what it was and what it might be worth. But those kind of people (maybe fortunately?) seem to be few and far between.
Most people know Rolex only and think that if you're wearing a 52mm invicta that you're a baller. Thats part of why I like Tudor as the vast majority of people don't know the brand at all.
I've only had one person notice and comment on a watch I was wearing. Oddly, it was a sales guy working at one of those Costco kiosks, and he spotted my Sub from like 30 feet away. 99.99% of the population wouldn't know the difference, or care, between a Rolex and a Kohl's watch. I wear watches for me, not to impress others, so I'm cool with that.
Weirdest was always people that recognized a Panerai. Only weirdos own Panerais and imagine the type of person who recognizes one.
I want one, but also get worried when I try to pronounce it in public... is it 'pan-er-eye' or 'pa-ner-ee' or 'pa-nar-eye'?
I say Pan-err-ray or -rye. Don’t give a shit if I’m right or wrong. Shit, I know I’m pronouncing Omega wrong and give no shits about that.
James Bond was the first person that I ever heard pronounce it "Om-ee-ga". But he is a Brit so that doesn't really count. They say all kind of shit funny.
That's what some clown at the Omega store in Zurich told me. I just smiled and said "sure thing, Hans Gruber, I'll remember that." I then kept saying Oh-meg-ah. Shit, should have said "Oh-meg-ah-ha-take-on me."
I have worm Rolex, Brequet, Blancpain, Grand Seiko Limited Editions, Bremont IOMTT Watches and Fortis. Oddly enough the ONLY watch that anyone every commented on was my Fortis... LOL it's the least expensive of the bunch and gets more comments, I don't wear a watch for the comments either, I wear the ones I like
I don't know, probably lucky that the nearest dealer to me now that I'm here is like 2 hours away. Don't want another 44mm and I don't think they make the 42mm GMT anymore. The 1372 looks okay online, maybe a preowned 00088, shit if I know. I'm kinda, not actively, looking around for a Pilot chrono or an aquatimer. Wish my Portofino was more in demand and I could do a trade but oh well.
I wore it the other week and it didn’t light up my liver and my kid doesn’t want it and I’m kinda over it so. . .
