I see that most of the bikes now come with 190/55 and my suzuki came with 190/50.... in terms of grip there is a real advantage for street..
Unless you are a poser that owns a sports bike for bragging rights ONLY... Stick to the 190/50 because you would not know a difference if it hit you in the face anyway... Define street? Are you talking only commuting in the city? or occasional ride to the mountains with friends at a little more than the posted speed limit... The idea of the 190/55 is due to the known fact that the 600cc super sports are better handling that the 1000cc super sports... That is because the 180/55 has a steeper profile than the 190/50... When introducing the 190/55, The bike has better handling and larger contact patch when lean over... As far as grip goes it depends more so, on the tire compound you choose... Bottom line, if you actually enjoy sports bike riding and leaning the bike into corners... Try the 190/55... Your bike will steer effortlessly... You be hooked!!! You will not want to go back to a 190/50... You know Pirreli is now making a 180/60 rear tire... There has to be an advantage... Luis
Very hard street riding.... no comuting... I actualy have 2 rims, one for cumuting and riding up 2...BT-023 and a pilot race for real riding.... The question comes since the 190/55 is more expensive but I wonder if its woth it... a 4mm shock shim in makes the bike handle very nice, almost the same in terms of steer.
The steep profile they say makes it fall into corners easy. I would say go for the 55 profile. I felt the difference on my zx10.
How much more... $10.00 Maybe $20.00? Totally worthed!!! Shock shim is for Geometry... Tire profile is different... The feel of the tire profile makes the difference... Try it... If you hate it it's only for 5K miles... Chances are you are going to buy 190/55 thereafter... Luis
I liked the turn in of the 55 vs the 50. It was easier to get into turns. It does flat spot sooner than a 50 if you commute a lot with them.
Does it make a difference 1000 v 600? Right now I run a 180-55 on my 600 but thought about stepping up to a 190.
No, none whatsoever. You'll roll just a bit slower with a wider tire. Narrow tire you traverse quicker.
