I've got family working at the middle school and shit is completely upside down from even a decade ago. If you think today's twenty somethings are unprepared just wait until 2035.

Most of the kids around here would be planning their "influencer" and "streamer" businesses. The middle school actually put in a gaming room, so the kids can stream to each other during recess. There used to be a TV production room which was used for daily announcements now used to make Tik Toks and reels.

They don't teach critical thinking at all. Every project has to fit in the little box the teacher can understand and likes.
Easiest way to get good grades is to just turn off your brain and tailor your project/paper to match the teacher's views and desires. Submit a paper/project full of errors, but strokes the teacher's feels and you'll get an A.
Then throw it away knowing that the real world is VASTLY different.
Same goes for college. Just proved this very thing with my son a couple months ago.

To be fair... change "teacher" to "boss"or "manager" and that describes a good handful of office jobs...

Friend of mine had a job where he said the boss only hired people for their neck down abilities . The friend said it worked out better if you left your brain at home otherwise you'd go crazy. He stayed at the job for 4 yrs.

Send him a link to motogp, web and motoamerica. Next day send him a link to a AA baseball team. Then ask him if it is number or professionals or the sport not being one he has knowledge of.

Sadly it is better to pick something nonsense like a food truck the moron can understand easily. Those that can do, those that can't teach.

I dealt with this sort of thing with those evil guns. It was a science project, hypothesis, data and shit.

My youngest kid (@11 y.o.) had recently found that a guy named JFK had been assassinated. How would you like to see if an 11 y.o. kid could, as realistically as possible, make those heads shots on a moving target, from correct elevation and speed? No, I don't know either, but it would be fun to try.

Approval took a long review, even here in the south. Lots of growls and suggestions for menthos in a coke type shit.

She put in the work and ended up judged best of the school. I did not see that coming, but that kid had a damn ball with the whole thing.

To be fair, I assume the teacher meant for a business that would likely actually MAKE money, not be a write off for a hobby.
The examples given are legitimate business ventures that will likely not be huge money sucks.
And yes, I know you cxn write off racing as a business expenses(been there, done that), but you can only get away with it for so many years before your ass might get audited.

Nope, it is making the admin take the easiest way out that avoids public conflict and scrutiny. It also gets the student what they want. Most admin are much more likely to tell a teacher what to do rather than a member of the public. A teacher won't go to the Superintendent or school board like a parent will. Other than me, I don't know any other admin that were willing to just tell a parent, "No". As you know, 95% of admin suck.

If I had a talk with a teacher like this and then the parent came back with a bad grade that wasn't justified the teacher would have a very big problem with me that might involve written letters of reprimand or worse. Even a shitty admin wouldn't take being thrown in front of that bus.

Lori got offered a full time teaching spot. She loved the job but had to turn it down. She said, the cost of the education, the pay, compared to the years left to work the job meant that she would almost break even as she retired. They did not understand that "math"

I fought a teacher once. When i was sophomore.
He made fun of my opinion in front if the class.

I walked right up and cracked him twice.
Moved to a different history teachers class and got an A that year...
