I thought Desmond's episode was much better than the Sun/Jin last week. I don't like the idea that Desmond has some special EMF super power or whatever but I they were using that to explain charlie, daniel, and the old woman (hawk i think is her name). I don't get why he went all relaxed other than maybe he knows how he's going to get back to Penny.

Thought it was a pretty good episode. Daniel is pretty smart so it makes sense he might figure out he is a living in a "parallel universe" sort of thing. I liked how Charlie figured out that being near death helps you see the other life or your true love (both lives flash before your eye?)

I think Desmond was real calm and peaceful because he now has an understanding of how true love happens no matter which universe he is in (and he has it) and he also realizes that Whidmore's experiment allowed him to discover all this and has a purpose (though I am not sure of the exact purpose an I am not sure if Desmond knows the exact purpose either).

I am curious what Ellouise's story is since she seems to have some overarching understanding in both universes. She really didn't want Desmond to find Penny in side-flash and it wasn't clear why not.

Did I understand Desmond is going to find the passengers on flight 915 and go let them know they are living a different life? Could fill up an episode or two...

This is the first time that a "flash sideways" is actually being connected to the island. Primarily, I think we all thought that the flash sideways stories are just showing how the characters would still interact if the plane landed ok in LAX.

Desmond was kind of a "constant" prior in his talks with Daniel at Oxford.

As was noted prior, its the near death experiences that allow the people to see the "other" life they had. The bomb went off, and as Juliet said, "It worked" and then she talked about getting coffee and going Dutch, again a clue. Charlie also felt it near death.

Desmond's flashes back and forth last night did not have the normal sound effect of the flash backs. So its assumed that only Desmond's conciousness was traveling back and forth.

Boy, before I typed that and after I listened to Seth this morning, I thought I had a better grasp on it, but I can see how its getting very confusing.

Desmond's task now in the "flash sideways" (for lack of a better term in his instance) is to get the flight manifest and have everyone realize the feelings that Charlie, Daniel and he are feeling. He was very calm in working with Widmore post EMF exposure last night, but oddly enough was calm in going with Sayid.

It definately was a big set up episode. But it gave out some important information. With the bomb going off, the power of that did cause some people to go "back" in time. Eloise knows whats going on though, like she always had. She is just playing it very close to the chest. She may be a bigger player than we think.

Am I not getting how the "flash sideways" is actually a "flash back"? All of these things going on in the flash sideways are actually happening the day after or a few days after the plane was supposed to land. The events on the island are things that happened after years on the island and the plane crash. Right? Or am I thinking about that wrong?

Did anyone else think that drinking the 60-year-old Scotch wasn't just a random part of the scene when Desmond was in the office with Witmore? I am trying to remember when something happened in a past season between those two about an expensive drink and I can't quite put my finger on it. But I seem to remember there was something.

If I remember correctly, Charles and Desmond drank together when they made a agreement about him and Penny. Can not remember what it was but it was some agreement.

either if he and Penny got together they woudl never see him again or he would stay away from penny for a specific time. I believe it was the same scene where the history of that specific type of Scotch was explained.

yeah, they put too much focus on the Scotch bottle and the age of it in that scene for it NOT to mean something significant.

Penny's last name in the "flashsideways" too was Penny Milton. You know, like "Paradise Lost" author John Milton. I keep thinking of Keeme's comment that "sometimes people are not meant to be together", which Eloise Hawking/Widmore reiterated last night.

But Charles knows they'll be together still if Desmond helps him.

    Damn confusing show

However, on the same note some people would be meant to be together. Like Sun and Jin and possibly the other relationships cut short through out this show.

The 60 year old Scotch was from Desmond talking to Widmore about marrying or dating his daughter. Widmore said the bottle of Scotch was worth more than Desmond was. I think the significance of that scene last night was just to show how much Desmond's life had turned around and he had everything he wanted.

    you're thinking about it wrong....

it's "sideways" in the sense that the events are happening in an alternate "fork" in time.

    ------"real" time-----*------"real" time------------"real" time------
    \
    \-----"alternate" time----------------------

    * = atomic bomb on the island

It was a real good episode. Just not sure yet how it ties into everything else.

    I might be wrong...

But when Desmond first appeard on the show and they were showing flashbacks from before he was on the island....didnt he have some kind of "power" that he knew when bad things were going to happen or something like that??

Wonder if that ties in somehow....
