I have my bike (new to me) at GMD and seems there is something odd about the forks in that they believe the upper tubes have been turned down. They tell me the part of the fork that goes thru both triples is 39mm and below the triples 40mm. Not really sure and can't find any info on diameters in the manual.

Any help would be great as the bike is new to me and I'm used to my 5KE which shares nothing but the name. Thanks!

Mine is a 1989 reverse cylinder. Above the triple clamp the tubes measure 40 mm and below they measure 41 mm.

Just above the triple clamps you can see a taper, not a step, in the tubes. If the tubes are low in the clamps you may not be able to see the taper.
