I am sad to say that my friend of 40 + years, Alex Bub, has passed away. His wife of 42 years, Kay Johannes posted on FB that he passed in his sleep. I travelled and raced with Alex for many years from the late 70's trips to Grattan and Nelson Ledges to the 2000's and a trip to Mid-Ohio. Alex was a club racing fixture in the mid-west for many years including having the first national championship for KTM when he won WERA 410 Superbike on his KTM enduro. He also raced AMA pro on his GS750 and BOTT on his XR1000. He will be missed by many. Prayers for Kay and their son David.
He was a sound engineer for Harley for many years until his retirement. He was reponsible for making the27hp Sportsters to meet the beginner hp limits for some european countries, among other projects. We endurance raced a pre-production Evo Sportster at Road America one year. I endurance raced with him and his brother Bob on a GPZ550 including a 24 hr of Nelson Ledges, Back Road Bandits. We had some adventures travelling to races in his old Ford van. Fortunately, I have seen him several times over the last couple of years and we stayed in touch.
