Been thinking about displaying my old helmets on a wall. Some of them are rather, um, ripe from sitting in the garage. Whats the best way to remove the smell from them? Would pulling all the liners out and displaying them without pads and liners be the best way?

Plastic or lexan case. If they're available for football and baseball there's got to be one basketball size. Plus, it should seal fairly tight.

When you put the liner back in, throw a fabric softener sheet underneath the liner beforehand.

You know, ya gotta have two different shelves. The shelf of fame and the shelf of shame. :D

This is the only reason I haven’t thrown helmets away, same with suits. Dawn dish soap seems to do really well with smell on the suits. Washing machine on the liners of the helmets will probably work mixed with a dryer sheet.

I have kept mine, shame to throw all that money away for a scratch on helmet. Wall of shame is pretty big!

Ikea's Detolf(sp) glass shelves for display. Got the idea from another racer. Laundry soap always kept my helmets clean and fresh smelling

Wasn't there a similar thread some time ago where helmets were displayed? Maybe someone's search-foo can dig up the thread.

I sliced my shit in half to give to a sponsor to hang on the wall in his shop.
