I think taking the long lap would show he recognized he fucked up and was taking responsibility..and he should IMHO.

Damn! What is up with everyone and these pro-penalty faction.

like something happened during a race, he came out the worst of everyone, and here everyone is like let's penalize a rider even more.

When the greatest to ever grid up makes a mistake, the haters are gonna pile on. Look at all the shots people took at Rossi a few years ago.

Injuring himself from riding like an asshat hasn’t seemed to impart any lessons.

Or are the rest of the field simply rolling berms for his use?

How do we know what he's learned, he hasn't gridded up yet.

You're not getting it. There is nothing pro-penalty about it. It's about goodwill. You ever see a tennis player asking for a point to be replayed even though the referee gave it to him, because he knows the ball was out/in? You know what the public does when that happens: loud applause.

Whether he deserved a long lab or not is irrelevant. He fucked up and injure someone: fact. He was penalized: fact. He escaped to penalty through a technicality and now people are mad at him, including his competitors. This is where showing some extra class earns him some goodwill/karma points back.

It's not always about being right.

That might actually hold some water, if this was the first time he injured himself riding like an asshat…
