Found one local for a good price. Its got wear and tear on it but it also has a streak of rust like something scared it real bad or was spilled on it. Has anyone ever tried to buff or resurface one of these stands? Pitbull Stand.jpg

Feckin wild, I just came here to post similar.

I'd prefer to restore the cadmium look, but suspect that's cost prohibitive.

    But...?

Pit Bull sells a re build kit, new wheels, h'ware, rubber bits, etc. That wont help your finish, they may re coat it too but shipping x2 would be ridiculous. Perhaps a local plating outfit could do that?

I like the patina......gives it character.

Doesn't matter what you do, it's still gonna be around long after you're gone.....

I like the powder coat idea. Should be fairly inexpensive for that route

By the time you factor in all the time spent disassembling, sandblasting, and powder coating might just have well bought a new one. The original plating will stand up better to track rigors than powder coating, too.

Speaking of painting... rear stands make a great paint prop for tail sections. Overspray is good character.

I know this is a crazy, outside the box idea, but maybe call PitBull and ask them. :D

Sand the rust spray some clear, put a sticker over it and move on.

    Pit Bull replates for $45
"$45 covers replating and all new hardware and assembly components. It won't be like new, but as close as it gets. Ideally it should be done when there's only white oxidization, not red rust, for best results."

Factor in the cost of packing/ shipping and you’re probably more than half way the cost of a new one. Plus everyone needs a spare stand to loan out.

How much do you think sandblasting & powder coating is going to cost ?

I bet its 75 bucks or so. Just strip it down, whack it with some scotch bright and Rustolium that bad boy. Two new PitBull stickers and its looking like new money all for around $20! Plus if it ever gets banged up it will be easy to touch up.

Last time I had a rear wheel & cush sandblasted, it was $50
Some powder coaters have sandblasters also . But depending on where you live, you might have to take it to two different shops . So now you add time & fuel cost .
Could be as much as $100 .
Would not be something I would do .

On second thought I think this is the best approach.
