I will be there next week, attending a conference. Flying into LGB. At the end of the day (5PM), I want to grab a bite to eat before heading up towards Pasadena to visit a friend. I welcome suggestions on places to eat a casual/not hugely expensive dinner near the convention center. TIA.
There are a couple places across street in the marina that are decent and then on the other side of the convention center is sea side and ocean Blvd with a ton of restaurants. All walking distance from convention center and presumably hotel if you’re staying right there. also, I’d wait til at least 7ish before heading to Pasadena or you’ll just be sitting in a parking lot of traffic trying to get around LA.
Coming to TPM? Ruth Chris’ steakhouse is right by the convention center for good food (pricey) Pine Ave has a ton of bars/restaurants.
Fify. Also you can take the trains from long beach to Pasadena. within walking distance of the marina? Nothing really of note except tug boat willies hotdogs because it’s a cute little hut. It if you don’t want big chain style bullshit you need to walk into downtown, which isnt far. On the “California cheap” side of things check out Gu ramen, Long Beach Taco Co. for artsy tacos. Oh… AND MOTHAFUKKEN ROSCOES CHICKEN AND WAFFLES. loved in the LB for a bit, and go there all the time to take my dog to the beach. if you can drive, you HAVE to dry the DUI fries at Jim’s on 7th. And the asada tacos with an Al pastor sope at king taco for the best authentic Mexican street food anywhere.
I always liked Gladstones. Nice selection of decent food with good views of the water, nice atmosphere.
I ate at the original in Malibu back in 1989. So I'm good and won't need to return. And a guy from LA I met recently said if I experienced the 1989 version of food and service, I would probably be disapointed with the 2023 version.
Not TPM, though the nerd in me wouldn't mind being there. Supply chain logistics can be interesting. And if you made a typo and was asking Um, no. ;--) RE: Ruth's Chris ... been to one in Chicago - meh. Again only if on someone else's time.
In n Out. Roscoes. Some hole in the wall mexican and get good fish tacos. Head to HB and go to Dukes. Get the Opah (moonfish).
First stop after arriving at LGB at 1100 hrs. No thanks. You know where I live. Why do I want a CA version of something I can get here? My friends took me to some hipster place in East LA for this. We may repeat the visit. Noted and a good possibility. Thanks!
