Kid is headed to college this fall, has always said he wanted a Grom. Recently he saw a TW 200 classified and is all fired up for one of those instead. I've done a little research, basically talking to a good friend @SpeedyTide who has one and gave it a big thumb's up. Seems like it would be a good fit (literally as the kid is 6'5") due to cost, it's inherent slowness, etc. Downsides I see so far are carb, possible drum brakes depending on the year... Note, he'll probably be in a dorm this year so this is just for putting around campus, not commuting. What else am I missing?
Unless he has a garage, or lockable storage do not take a newish grom or tw200 to a college campus, or apartments... it will (not might, it WILL) be stolen. Ski
You gonna believe Jeffah? Just kidding as he is a good reference for endurance in a machine. JUST DON'T ASK HIM FOR TIRE RECOMMENDATIONS!!
In GA, under 50cc bikes can go everywhere bicycles can, including sidewalks and bicycle parking racks. Sent my Zuma 50 with my daughter her freshman year. She got a bigger bike every year after that...
I was going to suggest an E-bicycle, but, realized that’d have a way higher chance of being stolen. A clutch and manual transmission should deter most campus prowlers. I’d suggest looking at an XT250. 2013+ are EFI, discs, faster than a TW, and offers more room for growth/exploration.
Trav, forgot to ask....where's he going? Tuscaloosa? Also, he likes the TW....that's cool. They've got a cult following. Have, and am, enjoying the heck outta mine. He'll be the coolest kid/young man on campus. He's gonna love going to Bryant Denny to watch the Tide Roll opponents.
Ditto. I was going to say make sure he gets a first floor dorm room and a cool roommate, or better yet, a single.
