If the story on ESPN has any truth in it I think that someone comes out of that pretty badly and it's not Berhalter.

For sure! It seems the model is to air select games on proper tv and have complete access behind paywalls / subscription services but the big 5 league rights holders are:

Premier League (England) - NBC / Peacock
La Liga (Spain) & Bundesliga (Germany) - ESPN / ESPN+
Ligue 1 (France)- Bien Sports
Serie A (Italy) & Champions League - CBS Sports / Paramount+

 

Of course you can always find a stream somewhere, not that I would know anything about that.
