We worked with him and Brett Ray in 94ish.
After John won the 200 he told me the Japanese guys treated him like he was a god while he was overseas racing. God speed

Wow RIP John. I never knew him but loved reading about him setting records for the most laps at the Daytona 200.

I actually thought he was younger than I am, man, that is too young.

John Ashmead the 1989 Daytona 200 winner that made all us Floridians so proud. RIP Champ

Yeah, especially when Gary Medley was building them. 1989 was my all-time favorite podium; 3 long-time and successful endurance racers.

What an awesome couple of stats:
"In addition to being a Daytona 200 race winner, Ashmead also holds the all-time Daytona 200 mileage record at 4,573 miles and the record for most Daytona 200 race starts at 34, ranging five decades from 1983 to 2021."

    RIP Racer
