I don’t remember anything he complained about that wasn’t well grounded and legit. My point was his relationship with the press had them spin it as bitching instead of trying to inform people of issues. Like the poorer kids getting run out of the paddock, which I absolutely hate about the sport.
I heard a MotoMatters podcast the other day and Dennis Noyes said he was the most difficult guy. I don't remember the specifics, if it was general pain in the butt or just a difficult interview?
My recollection of Stoner was that he wasn’t interested in being the media darling and an instaporn whore. He wanted to ride a motorcycle really fast and do his best to put it on the top of the box. He didn’t seek out media outlets to talk about his favorite eau de toilette or flaunt his new hairstyle. So the media had nothing but his race results, and his complaints about legitimate concerns to report. Well we all saw the races, his talent on two wheels was never a question. So all *we* got was the complaints.
The times I met Lawson he was nice enough but not there to socialize or join a barbershop quartet and sing songs. I said hello, made small talk, wished him well and went off to do my G style thing. I’d see him later, he’d wave, I’d throw up signs and off we’d go. and before he comes up, little John was pretty freakin’ alright. He could be “difficult” if you were there to be difficult with him. I still like the guy (even if I haven’t seen or spoken to him in a decade or two).
I remember Oxley writing something in the late 80's along those lines. He said that Lawson was pretty nice bloke but he was very serious about his racing and didn't like talking to the media as he found it a distraction that he didn't want or need.
Wooooooops, didn’t see this coming, Rins is gone, https://www.motorsport.com/motogp/n...TpegwksIs9Bqhr1yb64zMf8SL23Zo1qwFSSWQdGJ8lHi0
"Sincerely apologizing", but still wearing his helmet. Because he deserved a smack, and knew it. He did that for the cameras, nothing else. He cared not at all for how Stoner felt. It was all image defense.
There was one 500GP weekend around '99 or '00 where Biaggi was doing an interview then Kenny Roberts Jr arrived on a scooter and pushed Biaggi off to the side during the interview. I had to watch it like 5 times, cackling like a loon because the totally shocked look on Biaggi's face was priceless.
Ha ha. As I was reading thru this thread that was my first thought. Certain people have a hate for anyone who ever beat Rossi. I can't imagine being that much of a fanboy for anyone...
