Hey everyone, I need a bit of assistance from someone in the "Pittsburgh or north" area who's planning on attending the WERA Cycle Jam in a few weeks. Here's the situation. My neighbor has two small children, ages 6 and 8. Having no children of my own, I've resorted to trying to corrupt them as to the joys of all things two-wheeled. Our one and only Mr. Darrin Talbott, of Ed's Honda/Yamaha fame, was a willing accomplice in this whole affair. Darrin came up with a PW50 at Ed's Inc. and I talked my neighbor into picking it up for his little ones. The only remaining hurdle is getting the bike from Ed's Honda/Yamaha to my home, just south of Pittsburgh. FYI, we'll be hiding it at my place until it's ready for the official unveiling, so as to avoid any unnecessary nagging from interested parties, large or small, if you follow me. Darrin can provide transport for it to VIR and the Cycle Jam. What I need now is a ride from VIR to somewhere close to Pittsburgh. So, if anyone will be heading down that way and has room for a PW50 on the return trip, drop me a line. Help me brighten up the day for a few little kids and get the next generation started out right. Your name will be left out of it, so mom's "objections" will be absorbed exclusively by he and I (and mostly "he" if I can help it!). Thanks in advance for the help.
MTK, I think I can help. I live in Bradford, PA. North of ya. I come through Breazwood on my way their and back. I'll have room for the PW50. Darrin knows who I am so hooking up with him wouldn't be a problem. Let me know if I can help. If I can help make a few children happy, I'm for it. Give me a call on my cell (814) 598-6607. Thanks, Scott Collins
Why don't you get yer ass to the track and pick it up yer self! Or did you forget how to get to any of the tracks since you took your little racing vacation? It's not as much fun without having the pink wonder to chase around.
Yeah, yeah, I'll get out there myself eventually, you wankers. But since I've decided to try my hand at endurance racing and since I haven't raced since "the incident" in June 2002, I figured that the Cycle Jam at VIR isn't exactly the place to get my feet wet again. Now can we get back to the issue at hand, as in how to get the PW back to the 'burgh so I can corrupt the neighbor's kids?
If the endurance race at Cycle Jam goes like last years, it was a perfect place to get your feet wet, it rained for the entire race. If Mr. Collins can't help you out, I can get it as far as Joisey, if that would help at all. Let me know.
As always, Gentlemen, remember: "What goes around, comes around." Whoever helps goes on my good list.
Steve, Thanks for the offer, but Breezewood is closer than DC and I don't want to wait until July to get it. I'm hoping to have it running by Memorial Day weekend so the wee ones can be tearing things up with it all weekend. They have no idea that it's coming, but honestly I can't wait that long to see them ride it. I'm just as excited about it as they will be, once they see it. But if something materializes to help get it from DC towards this area, I might take you up on that lift after all. One thing is for certain, the PW will have proper WERA decals (and Ed's Honda/Yamaha decals, of course) on it before they get it. Gotta thank the folks who made it happen and all that.
Just bumpin' it to the top. Remember, this is a good way to get on Darrin's "good list." Not to mention help get a few youngsters their first taste of life on two wheels. I'm just thinking of it as a dry run for when I have a few ankle-biters of my own.
Check with Scott Collins. He said he'd pick it up. He's already on my good list, so this would bump him to my better list.
Damn. I just don't know where I'd be able to squeeze it in the truck. My wife is coming which means on top of the usual too much stuff/too small truck problem, I have to find room for her and her 5 bags for a 4 day event. Maybe I could leave her down there with Darrin and pick her up in August when I come back for the next sportsman event. I'm sure she would love to get away from me, but it would probably knock me off of Darrins Good List... Sorry, tom
Hey Tom, Thanks for the offer, but I'd go crazy waiting until August to get it. I want to see them riding it on Memorial Day weekend if I can pull it off. By August, I'm hoping the older boy will have moved up to the XR75 and the PW will be just for his little sister. Hey, I'm enjoying parenthood vicariously with his kids. Oh, sorry, I just realized he was talking about leaving the wife until August, not the PW50. Not gonna touch that one. However, have you considered the benefits of the "sensitive guy" angle? You know, milking that whole "it's for the children" thing for all it's worth? Put a few points into the "plus" column on her scorecard so that the next time you're half-loaded and watching porn you don't get sent right to the doghouse. Seriously though, it looks like a ride to Breezewood will get it done. I'll get a hold of Scott Collins and see what his departure plans are for the Cycle Jam. If the timing won't work, I'll ask dwheeler if he can get it to Breezewood for me. Much thanks to everyone who offered their help. Trust me on this one, I know two little kids who are going to be really, REALLY grateful for your efforts.
Hey, I think I can help, but only if I can use it as a pit bike all weekend. No...actually, I can't help, but I would still like to use it.
Jason, If you can get it running, you can use it as a pit bike all weekend. Since I don't think it's fully operational at the moment, I think I'm pretty safe on that one. And if you do get it running, that saves me the trouble of working on it.
hmm...... since I dont have my 2-stroke anymore, then I might actually have some free time during the weekend to work on it.
That's fine with me. Just keep in mind the following: 1) It's not my bike, and more importantly, 2) Two very sweet little kids will be sorely disappointed if anything major goes wrong with it. The goal is to piss off his wife and make the kids happy, not the other way around. In other words, stop short of the "how far can I jump this baby" activities and everything will be fine. That and making sure it gets back in touch with whoever will be toting it to Breezewood for me. Speaking of which, Scott, I'll give you a call this evening so we can discuss things.
