Cleveland dudes

I’m picking up a lathe his weekend and it’ll be on an open car trailer. I need a hotel in a safe area, with ample (obviously not in a garage) parking, and preferably with a bar or two nearby. Close or just off I90 would be great.

Any general areas to avoid, or look for?

 

Holy chit man...you driving all the way to Cleveland for a lathe??? I hope it comes with a happy ending for driving that far...damn.

 

Machine tools in my area are horrendously overpriced, and usually beat to shit. This is a fantastic lathe at a really good price. It’s only 400 miles each way. Plus a buddy has to drop an axle off for a dude in the area anyway, so he’ll ride with and we can have a couple two tree beers at night. No big deal.

 

Two drivers, 800 miles, who needs a hotel?

 

I have to go through chicago. If I avoid the morning rush, I’ll hit it on the back end, and vise versa. It can add 2-3 hours to the trip. I don’t mind getting a hotel room and having a couple cold ones.

Plus, the loading process is going to take a couple hours. Combine that with a 7 hour drive each way and that makes for a long ass day.

Yes if you drove both ways non stop long day.
Instead , drive there. Sleep then pickup and drive back non stop.

 

Then get the room somewhere in the middle of Indiana.

In Cleveland Heights off Cedar? My grandparents went there for like 30 years. Its pretty damn good yea, and thats a lot coming from somebody that dislikes Cleveland immensely.

For the East side of city:
Glidden House on the CWRU campus is near I-90. Upscale food/drinks all under the same roof or plenty of college age scenery nearby. Safe area and FWIW, Cleveland Botanical gardens has underground parking right across the street.

So Chris hooked you up with something? Despite living about an hour south of Cleveland, I'm not super familiar with the ins and outs of the city nightlife. Off of 90, I can say stay out of Euclid although that will probably be apparent once you are there. Congrats!

Yep. Every time we drive through there on our way to Maine, and back again, we stop. I don’t know what they do to it - but every time someone mentions Cleveland, that’s what I think about. Not the Museum and all it’s art - a deli and corned beef.

I love food.
