Feel the Bern

Discussion in 'The Dungeon' started by Robby-Bobby, Dec 2, 2015.

  1. Middle class people that try to eat healthy and prefer WF to the options. Player has nothing to do with it. Luckily not too many angry conservatives like you shop at my local WF.

Meh.... The whole paychecks Kool-Aid is strong with this one........ A good local grocery story can supply just as much healthy as WF...now the hipster factor may not be as cool but that's your choice to send your money how you please. When I go to WF it's for boutique foods such as stuffed olives, expensive cheeses, charcuterie, etc.. fruits, veggies, fish and meats of equal or better quality are all available for less at my local grocer. That's a strange selection to bring up. Why did you reference "the war machine?" Why not any of the "social programs" that Bernie wants to "invest in?"

The hell you haven't. There have been more than a couple of times when you've made statements about the rich making too much money. Deal with it.

Unless you can show that all those wealthy businessmen/women, and the corporations that they own, are hoarding all their profits, then it's going back into the economy. That means back into circulation among the customers, workers, etc. of society. That, my friend, is "trickle down economics" and it sure as hell works.

Mongo, perhaps we're talking about more than one view of "better" when comparing today with yesterday. Sure, we are more technologically advanced, we have better products in many segments of our lives, our outlook at life is seeing more possibilities, but are we having to deal with those nagging worries in the back of our mind that didn't exist 20, 40, or 60 years ago? I think so. Back then we were fat, dumb and happy with the biggest worry consisting of where were we going to take our wives out to dinner. Most of us that is. Today, we are, for the first time in my life I think, watching a frigging self proclaimed socialist run for the Presidency of this country. The scariest part of it is that we have a lot of non-thinking voters out there are supporting him where just 40 years ago he would have been laughed out of the country. Possibly covered with tar and feathers. We have people in this country that apparently don't follow through with their political reasoning and only do what feels good to them at the time.

Personally, even though I have more disposable income that I used to have, I kind of worry about where we'll be in another 10 years. Of course, by that time, and at 85 years of age, I probable won't really give a rat's ass. You youngsters can deal with it. :D

You know what I don't get? How has Bernie kept getting re-elected in Vermont? Vermont is mostly rural and if Vt is anything like Pa us rural folks are pretty conservative. So...what gives?

May point out that if this were 1950, you wouldn't be worried about where he would be in another 10 years. You would be grateful for every damn day you get over 75 years spent dodging illnesses that didn't yet have a cure.

    Just sayin'. :D

My problem is they like to name economies trickle down socialism. Its really all the samething just who gets on top and how they get there is different. But every single one is a trickle down. People on top buy expensive new items. People on bottom buys their used items. No economy will ever change that. The big difference is who gets to be on top. Thats where i disagree with socialism it will end up picking whos on top. Capatalism all though you have the boys club as to say. You can be on the bottom and with enough fight and determination you can break through and join the club yourself.

Rural but also very granola. It's no surprise to me that a left leaning politician has support in VT.

Well, yes that's true but you're using an ideal model of capitalism. The ideal model has a government that serves the people and puts certain checks and balances on a capitalist system. Not so many checks and balances that could be construed anything like socialism but enough checks and balances to keep the wealthy and greedy from using their resources to keep others down.

Unfortunately, that's not the model you currently have in the USA. Your current version of capitalism is broken and neither voting in a Bernie or Trump will fix it because it's not a problem that arises from right or left ideology. It has arisen from an ideology that the government acts in it's own best interests and not the best interests of the people (that it is supposed to represent). Without a fundamental ideological shift (that has nothing to do with right, left, capitalist or socialist) there will be no real change.

Trump isn't going to ruin anything even if he gets elected. Bernie won't ruin anything either. No one will ruin anything..... and no one will fix anything until the people of the USA really want electoral reform.

Historically, I'd agree with this. The part that has me concerned is the circumventing of the checks/balances through "executive order". It's always been an arrow in the quiver, but it seems it's beginning to become the go-to for all sides. "Well, this side did it, so I will too ..." kind of crap.

i agree with what your saying im just making a generalized statement to the term trickle down economy. People that support socialism have some belief that it will end trickle down economy. But it will do none of the sort it will be itself trickle down. There can never be financial equality.

Walmart is not cheap when it comes to groceries. People just assume it is. They run a few hyped sales and the rest is average or above average price.

I think you need to note the difference between communism and socialism. There is no argument that communism doesn't work... but with that in mind there are numerous examples of successful countries with socialist policies. Socialism in itself isn't a bad thing, but I'll admit that socialist anything in the USA is not likely to be successful.

I don't think that anyone thinks that socialism will result in absolute equality. The smartest and most ambitious will still be the most successful, the lazy or the not-so-ambitious will still be the least successful. The difference is that the two ends of the spectrum are closer together.

The biggest difference between communism & socialism is that socialism can be dragged on almost indefinitely. Until it goes Greek on you.

  20. These guys just don't want to let go of the false idea that Bernie wants everyone to earn the same amount, even though it's an idea that's far from reality.

I will admit that even I don't know if all of Bernie's ideas are feasible here, but out of all the candidates, including Hillary, he seems to make the most sense, and has the common men and women in mind. That's why I choose him.
