Urgent! Need help! The outsiders question!!

Who here is likes literature? Well, I don't, and my middle school daughter has a crossword puzzle homework assignment over the book The Outsiders. I've literally spent way too much time on this one question. And the collective brain capacity here is utter genius, so I know someone has the answer.

Question: Where Two-Bit waves? And the puzzle part is:



Second letter is an H and fifth letter is a D.

 

And yes, I've already scoured the ends of the internet...

Download a compilation of English words into Excel. Write a formula to match six letter words wherein letter 2 is h and letter 5 is d. I'd bet there's not more than 20 - 30. If that doesn't work. If you have an electronic copy you can do a proximity match for the keywords "two-bit" and "wave". Why read?

 

I used to do a lot of crossword puzzles. Often, when you are stumped like this, one of the intersecting answers is wrong. It may seem correct, but see if there is another answer that makes sense.
Also, I can't even come up with a word that fits in there, so it could be a place name.

The clue could be wrong, also. Could it be lives instead of waves? Or what two-bit waves?

 

Yes. And I asked her to get the book so I could look through it and she informed me it was a class set and they couldn't bring it home.

26 across (5 letters): Number of months since Curtis' parents died. I'm pretty positive it's EIGHT.
