Vetta fairing too. Combine that with the rotary engine and you've got a one-of-a-kind combination for sho!
There's a guy around here somewhere that has a couple of those and a couple of Van Veen bikes. He's really into rotaries. Brings a few to our bike show every year.
I love the dash on those. You can seit in the second picture. Had a curved lexan cover over the gauges. When you pressed a button it would slowly retract back.
That was only on the first-year RE-5, IIRC. Bizarre, heavy bike. A friend of mine rode one across the USA as part of Suzuki's intro/release promotion of the bike. He said it was like riding an appliance for 5000 miles. It has no "personality" at all.
A local enthusiast has one. I rode it...when you give it heavy throttle, the bike fucking leans! I dont remember if it's left or right but the bike would literally lean. Torque steer of some sort.
Want one? A friend has one for sale in the mid-west. He travels a lot, btw. He's had it a while, & you'll get a straight deal.
I knew some guys who raced one in WERA in the early 80s. They removed the rev-limiter and turned it close to 10,000, IIRC.
ALL longitudinal crankshaft engines lean. Re5, MotoGuzzi, BMW, Hercules, DKW, Gold Wing, Silver Wing. Basic physics.
There was a CL ad in Birmingham a couple of days ago for a Honda CX-650 Turbo. Haven't seen one of those in many, many years. Looked to be a in great shape.
