How the hell does a Sportster primary chain break?

    Mechanic error? Lots of torque?

i know some of the old air cooled race buells had special 3 row primary chains to prevent just such breakage .

The guy that was spinning wrenches on the teams bikes was very experienced with racing Buells and had only seen 1 other primary break. Jim Leonard was over there and said he had only seen 1 other failure as well, caused by running the wrong oil in the primary case.

I got the impression it was kind of a freak failure. Really ugly to look at after the fact for sure.

    Great seeing you too...
Yea not practicing hurt me with brake markers, the correct line, etc. I am just happy I did as well as I did! LoL.
I will hit up Scott for your number...

    Ride safe,

No way a chain that stout just broke under the awesome torque of the harley. Master-link mechanic mismanagement much more likely.

    Tdub Say what???

Possibly not enough slack in the chain...as the cases heat up the distance from the crank to the clutch grows a bit. Doubt it was HP as we ran 2 row chains on our 75-80HP 883s and 100HP 750s. Definately some kind of fluke. JMO

We've had some XR1200s running with us up here at OMRRA.

Last year the Latus AMA boys stopped in for a round and ran with the SV classes. I wasn't there, but I heard they ran at the front.

This year we have a couple local guys running them...doesn't look like they'll be competitive with the SV650s for a while. Too slow in a straight line...will take some serious talent/experience to make it up in the corners.

kanatuna You can't polish a turd..

AHHAHAHA shit.... Another bike switch for the big man.

I ran against a well built XR1200 at the AMA RRGC last year at Putnam. It'd be a great fit into LWT even though its heavy as hell. lol

That was Jeff Steven's bike, the owner of Bloomington HD. Jezza rode that at IMS. He had one of his former Buell riders on the bike when you saw it.
