Damn! That looked horrible. Glad to hear that at least two of you seem to have come out OK. Phil, give me a call sometime. I'll say a few prayers for you - have a quick recovery.

The other ride hit in the melee is currently in surgery to fix a broken fib / tib fracture. He will be in for a few days to keep an eye on things. :(

LOL! It was nice talking to you for a bit and watching some practice from a great vantage point.
I was causing enough inconvenience without rolling an ambulance, too.
Yeah, broken clavicle, but it's the two broken ribs that really hurt.
At least the SV came out much better.

I wish the injured riders a speedy recovery. Phil was very pumped when he got back to the paddock and wanted to retech and restart the race. But for a broken rear set he may have tried. It was amazing how little damage the bike had and how well the helmet worked. His tank was dented from his knee being jambed into it by the other rider/bike. The thumb looked pretty swollen.

Turn One was bad luck yesterday with too many incidents happening there - more on that from others.

BTW, I can definitely recommend the Winchester hospital if you're in the area and require their services. I think I was back at the track in about 2 hours.

Out of a "barn" in New York. But formerly in a museum in Japan.

  10. Wow, that is impressive.

After a wreck at Barber, i sat with my right ankle shattered into 7 pieces and my left wrist shattered into 9 pieces, hurting like a mother fucker, for a full hour waiting on them to get a room cleaned up so i could get into it. They paged the orderly like 6-7 times and an hour later she finally shows up, chewing on what is left of her food and walking real slow so she can finish the conversation she was in the middle of.

Then they took some x-rays and some random doctor looked at them (not sure what he was looking at) and decided that they just needed to be "set". So they gave me some pain injections and commenced twisting/turning/craming/pulling and manipulating my wrist and ankle for about 30min.

...then some other doctor looked at the x-rays and was like "umm, those bones are shattered and you just wasted your time...he is going to need surgery".

    .........and this was at UAB.

I'll second the vote of confidence in the hospital at Winchester...I broke a collarbone at Summit a couple years back and they were great, the doc was a big mountain bike guy who totally related to bikes and for the first time in my life I didn't get the anti-motorcycling speech...Nurses, everybody was great...If you have to bust yourself up it's a pretty good place to go, they deal with the whole Shenandoah Valley region so they are equipped for darn near everything.

Another +1 for Winchester if you're at Summit.

I was taken to Winchester last year and credit that to the EMT who was yelling at the ambulance driver to turn around and take me to Winchester since I needed an orthopedic doctor. Got there and was in surgery within 2 hours. My specialist says they did a great job specially considering I had some difficult fractures that had to be set and repaired. Only wish I got titanium instead of stainless... I wanted the weight savings....

  13. Did they give you an option? Or even ask?

Im curious because I am allergic to stainless steel (go figure) and I always make sure I tell them to use Ti.

I don't know if they have some SOP up there or not, I do know the ambulance crew had pre-printed directions to the Winchester medical center in their flashy wagon, that's how we ended up there...I didn't need an ambulance for a broken collarbone...Regardless, any allergies you have you may want to carry on a med card in your leathers and noted on your lid...Oh, and those folks are real tuned up on racing injuries, most of the stories I heard out of them involved the car guys and lower extremity injuries, compound fractures, things of that nature, so they are savvy in the way of ti I suspect...(EDIT: No ti at Winchester, good heads up from Engine No09)

There were rides to Jefferson as well as Winchester yesterday, so good question how they decide where.

They said they didn't have titanium when I asked. Not sure what they'd do for you. I contemplated getting transferred to John Hopkins or something for a specialist but there were complications with trying that and wasn't sure what I could even expect if I tried.

Also it may have just been the operating room I was in too. Years ago my mom didn't get Ti for the simple fact that the room she was in didn't have it. If they took her to the other room they did...

  17. Slick228

Slick228 I dropped oil there, too.

Either way....it was a real treat to watch that thing come thru turn 1, lap after lap. I meant to get into the pits after races on Saturday to check it out, but all I could think about was getting to the cafe and eating some warm soup.

I got a ride from Turn 1 to the ambulance at the track so they could take a quick look. They recommended Winchester and gave me directions.
    Jefferson is the other choice.

I apologize for not thanking all of those involved for their professional and friendly attitude. MAARC has some great people !

It was a difficult weekend for racing, with a lot of challenging weather. As usual, WERA peeps prevailed, and MARRC dudes rocked! The event went pretty darn well overall, and we got our races on! I had more fun dicing with jrockcolors for last place in A SB EX that I have had on any track in a while!

I'm just happy that I got the Beemer home unscathed. The Saturday "rain dance" was a PITA.

^ Do the advanced electronics on that bike help on a crappy day like y'all had on Saturday?

Hoping for a fast recovery to all those injured, I've heard a lot of crash stories at SP T1, people really need to heed that advice of not winning a race in the first corner.
