Well known, or relevant? Fat kids also knew Shoney's Big Boy and Little Caesar, but were THEY relevant?
Depends on the discussion. If someone were to ask what are the leading causes of child obesity is the US, one of the relevant points of discussion could be Ronald McDonald. Are there any Shoney Big Boy's still around? Aren't they just Shoney's now? I haven't seen one in years. I know there are still Frisch's Big Boy, but not down in Augusta.
I had already discovered McDonalds' greasy goodness before Ronnie, the Big Mac, the Quarter Pounder, Chicken McNuggets, Happy Meals, and dining rooms. The red headed pasty faced one didn't influence me to buy even one.
I liked the fry guys and hamburgler the best. The clown and fat purple guy creep me out. The house is still very relevant.
Could've sworn it was Frish's Big Boy.. http://www.frischs.com/history.htm . Relevant or not, the clown is still a corporate symbol. At least it's not the McDonalds Carny. That would freak me out..LOL Cheers, lee S.
Buy why is Ron McDonald such a polarizing figure? Is it his outspokenness against nuclear proliferation? His support of secessionist Tamil Tigers of Northern Sri Lanka in the late 70s? Is it his matching red boots and hair? Discuss...
