Stopped and gave a quick look at a 2004 Mini on a lot today. On the rear hatch under the Cooper S emblem it said R53. What does R53 designate? I've never seen that emblem before, just the S.

it's the generation. R53 is the previous generation S, which is supercharged. R56 (current gen) is turbocharged.

Thanks. I thought the S was the only designation as far as being supercharged.

It was in emaculate condition. Probably more mulah than I could stand.

R56 is 2007+, when they switched to turbo, but they still call it an S. any S before that is R53. mini resale value is ridiculous. fyi the R56 has a cold start noise issue that mini still hasn't announced a fix for. a lot of drivers prefer the R53.

For the money, those little cars are BADA$$!! My mentor has one and the damn thing handles like a shifter cart. There's a club he's part of that do tracksays and the like and it really looks like a blast!

I love my mini, it is a 30+ MPG street legal go cart.
