In a few years he will be remembered like Jordan, Ruth and Ali. Never a fan but you can't deny his abilities.
I don't see any reason he would play another year. Last year he left money on the table, which gave him a good reason to not retire. And his play, while not garbage, just wasn't up to the level his legacy should have. I would bet he sees that. He likely still has some desire to play, but is likely looking at his play as a whole and knows it's time to move on to the even bigger money and easier life of his Fox contract.
Who cares? Not like he played for the Steelers. I still could picture him going back to NE, playing one more year and retiring a Pat.
I hope for the sake of his peace of mind that this glorious final year was worth sacrificing his marriage.
Yes, playing one more year of football was the only reason the marriage ended. Sure. Totally believable.
If I was a betting man, I'd bet it was already on the rocks. Maybe he figured "fuck it, she's leaving me anyways, might as well go play some more". No way they divorced just because he un-retired.
I don't think that it was just about 2022. But I can easily imagine something that's been brewing for a few years with him making promises to retire soon and not delivering. And the second head fake could have turned out to be one too many. I don't think it's much of a stretch to think that there are football wives out there who are afraid of CTE to the point that it becomes an issue in their relationship.
