Free practice wasn’t shown, earlier. Forkner, Hampshire, Lopes, Lawrence, and Oldenburg fast on 250’s. Sexton, Craig, Tomac, Musquin, and Nichols top the 450 class.

What dumbass did not lower the netting for baseball. That’s messing with my eyes with the grid pattern.

I'm thinking the 'Tomac vs. Sexton' battle is going to continue to be the main storyline tonight, with who's finishing 3rd being the sub-plot in 450's. 250 question is will Austin or anyone else beat Jett tonight, (or any other race this season?)

I didn't think Tomac would go after it like that, but he was clearly feeling it.
And Webb surprised me a bit, I figured him for 5-7.

Both Webb and Ferrandis surprised me in their heat races, and I knew then they could both be in the mix tonight. I absolutely hate what happened to Mookie, and Austin, in the 250's. Malcolm's looked to be something with the bike, but he busted ass to get back on to ride it again. Dude really impressed me tonight!

Eli and that new bike looked way too good tonight. Webb was Webb and when the whoops get longer and bigger, he will struggle. The whoops tonight were a joke as they always are at A1 and the few rounds that follow. Sexton surprised me as he seemed tight in the main. I thought it was over when he took the lead but kept making little mistakes. Ferrandis was flying and also slowed down at the end a bit. Roczen and that Suzuki just looked slow all night. I know he turned the second fastest lap time in the main but he didn’t throw the bike around like he did the Honda.

It was great to smell race gas again and the event was sold out so the place was packed. Can’t wait to hit San Diego in the new stadium, A2 and then Houston. A little break and then Phoenix and finish it off at SLC. Supercross is a fun season for me.

Roczen finishing 5th after not knowing what bike he'd be on until late in the off season, that impressed me.

Yeah Roczen was impressive in the heat and the main. Stewart was looking good too till that weird crash. Looked like it bogged off the jump or something. I was hoping for more from Plessinger.

250s was such a snoozer. They need to combine east and west. It’s super lame that the top talent won’t run head to head against Jet on the same coast.

Good to see McAdoo do well. Tomac’s performance is unreal.

Good racing and an exciting 450 main. Not too surprised to see Tomac on the gas, but unusual for A1 for him. doesn't bode well for the rest of the field this season. usually he starts a bit slow and then speeds up.

impressed with Roczen for the new (to him) bike. Surprised a bit with Sexton and his little mistakes but he'll be solid the whole season and will keep it interesting. Most of the riders just want to get thru A1 with a decent finish and not injured (or on the ground). Disappointed with Plessinger, but still enjoy watching him. Mookie had the lead but with Sexton behind him didn't hold much hope for the finish. Ferrandis was solid and moved forward most of the main. Webb was the surprise after his year last year, not a fan of his but was good to see him with some fire in his belly. Anderson was good but a few mistakes cost him.

250 was a snoozer except the start.

At this point, I think everyone who's serious about challenging Eli's Championship title is going to have to hope for some misfortunes to occur for him this season. It occurred last year at Atlanta when he tweaked his knee all on his own. We all know a lot can happen in the next 16 races. I believe Eli and the new Yamaha will be hard to beat without any issues or mishaps, otherwise. His wise race-craft is clear in so many different ways. One example being his caution when passing riders to avoid the possibility of tangling, as evidenced last night when Roczen was catching him as he was slowed trying to pass Barcia, knowing his history.

It became clear to me several years ago when Star Racing earned the privilege of running Yamaha's 250 'factory' effort, someone was wise enough to identify and prioritize the importance of getting good starts, especially in SX racing. They seem to have focused their engine building and electronics packages to ensure their riders are able to achieve 'better than average' starts, since at least 2020, and perhaps earlier. It's certainly worked for Eli this past 13 months, after years of struggling with just average starts at best, when he was with Kawasaki. Last night for the 450 main the camera was zoomed on the front wheels of many of the top riders at the starting line. When the gates dropped I observed Jason Anderson's front wheel already moving, having timed the start to perfection, when Leigh Diffie commented that Jason had nailed the start. Despite his perfect timing, Jason's start once they made the first turn was just average, while Barcia, both Yamaha's, Roczen, Sexton, J.A's teammate A.C. and even Kawasaki supported Joey Savatge ended up in front of J.A. I recognize that there are an extremely complex amount of variables that occur over the first few seconds of a SX race, (see Austin Forkner's start gone bad,) but I believe the Star Racing Yamaha, Honda and others, have figured out engineering solutions that give their riders a slight advantage in this critical element of a successful SX race, and season.

I'm looking forward to seeing them at the Daytona and Nashville rounds, for sure!

  16. I was more impressed by him than anyone last night.

Roczen leads early then ends up what, 30 seconds back without crashing? Not impressed considering his interviews all week bragging about his fitness, how the bike fits him perfectly, and how he’s an A1 specialist like BamBam.

Eli was on rare form for early in the season. Him running away with this is not out of the question. But it’s early days.

Forkner found his form again in his 5th or 6th season in 250s.....

Not gonna bother discussing Roczen....he's been on the best bikes and hasn't produced honestly...the Suzuki gives him a lowered expectation IMO.
