Headed there in a couple weeks. Quick anniversary trip. Just me and the wife. What should we not miss?
Becky's Diner on the waterfront- best clam chowdah and lots of local flavor. The Porthole down the street is a local bar type place, but the Lobstah Rolls are AUTHENTIC.
Maine is a beautiful state, minus the black flies, deer flies, horse flies, mosquitoes and yellow jackets. Oh, you're going to a city? What's wrong with you?
Just asked Mom. She said they’re full up. Stay in Oh Heigh Ho. Unless you bring her corned beef from Jack’s Deli.
mountain bike trails near Bangor are pretty awesome. colors should be great there this time of year too. happy anniversary! Ski
Ok, now to get to it. What are you interested in? Portland is probably the least interesting place in the entire state to be honest. It’s a shit small town that wants to think it’s a big city. Tourist season is over so you may as well put the idea of “Downeast charming restaurant” out of your head. They closed a month ago. They’re having the same difficulty getting decent help as the rest of the country, so Denny’s and Pizza Hut may be the only places you find open. A little north on US-1 to Freeport if you want boutique shopping, further north to Bath to see the Bath Iron Works cranes and navy ships being repaired, further north and off Route 1 to Boothbay Harbor if you want scenery, back to Route 1 and further north to Waldoboro to visit Moody’s Diner, further north to Rockland for museums and to deliver the corned beef, further north to Camden for a dried up tourist town that still thinks it’s high class… Or head south and visit @inyourcorner in the Tax Free or Die state. Flip off some Massholes and enjoy the best drivers in the whole damn country as they navigate I-95 traffic. Or find someplace decent to go this time of year. A cryogenic facility would be my choice.
