Yes, we need more laws to protect the hoplophobes feelings. It says right there in that bill of rights thingy...my right to my feelings trumps your 1A and 2A rights.
Yep, been playing a video game with lots of swords and cutting people in half and the like. Still treat my kitchen knives like they'll hurt the hell out of me because they will...
Yeah no sorry, not going to allow that sad fucks agenda to be promoted here even if you don't feel that's what it does. Mongo.
This gun law stuff is irrelevant to what just happened in NZ... The guy appears to be quite intelligent as well as very crazy. No law was going to prevent him from doing something truly horrific. But in general... Gun laws in New Zealand seem to be based on the idea that guns don’t kill people, people kill people. So there is a serious background check and an interview before you can get a license which needed to buy firearms or ammunition. They focus resources on weeding out the nutcases - not on registering guns and the number of firearms a responsible owner can have. It seems to work reasonably well and this one event does not change that.
You know some of these nutcases leave no trail. Serial killers have been leading ordinary lives in the burbs then killing when it suits them for decades. Smart guy with an agenda and a plan would have no problem pulling an attack like that off.
https://www.thereligionofpeace.com/attacks/christian-attacks.aspx This is a list of targeted acts of terrorism on Christian civilians and church workers by religious Muslims since September 11th, 2001. These attacks have nothing to do with war, combat or insurgency. The victims are innocent Christians who were specifically targeted and abused solely on account of their faith by those who claim their own religion as a motive. The last one was in Nigeria on March 11 with 46 killed. You recall seeing that in the news, right?
Until someone can logically rationalise and explain a crazy nut job persons evil thoughts and actions, all other aspects of discussion are moot. The dude was a POS whacko. May he burn in Hell. RIP to the victims.
There is no logic outside of that persons mind, but to them it seems perfectly sane and rational. It's no different than someone who commits suicide or anything else that's not "normal" the problem is that to them, it is normal and everyone else is crazy. Most people have a grip on reality and understand there is a problem, others lose that grip and slip completely into their own world and everyone else is there to hurt them, or they simply don't care to come back to the normal of society.
But the difference with us is simple. The second amendment is for self protection against the government should it become tyrannical (and thus help it not do so) Way to many people either lie about this or do not understand. Thus as soon as the government can determine who is OK and who is not the danger increases. Certainly there is a place for excluding certain people like felons, foreigners and the dangerously psychotic people. However the governments ability to put someone in that list should be very limited for a reason.
Agree 100 %. The guy is an Australian who is not on anyone’s watch list. Not in Australia, not in NZ. Stayed below the radar ... Fortunately there are very few who are crazy enough to do something like this and at the same time together enough to make it happen. To be this deadly also requires long term dedication. He spent months or maybe years putting the thing together. Even just the 76 page manifiesto must have taken quite some time. I can sort of see it when some crazy guy gets angry and starts shooting. But what fuels such evil intention over that time frame is just beyond me ....
Interesting point ! But the US seems to have drifted well off that track. Why can’t you buy hand grenades and fully automatic weapons ? When both are basic equipment for the well regulated and effective militia which the second amendment seeks to preserve.
