Ordered up a new hardtail "fun" bike today, Salsa El Mariachi 3. Meh shifting group, the forks are meh, the brakes are meh and it's a stupid 29er but it's steel and an absolute freakin' riot. It's almost exactly what I wanted (I'd prefer 26), a fun bike that didn't break the bank or my back.
So, kinda almost exactly opposite everything you talked about. Everyone I know who has or had one loves them.
Yeap, didn't really like it when I read about it but it really is a case of try it, you'll like it. Mine will be here tomorrow.
Always wanted to try one, just never found a deal. The build on the 3 ain't bad, SLX stuff is cool, I'm using a Tower Pro that I like. Nothing there that'll get in your way. What size did you decide? Red, I presume?
1) Um, screw you! 2) I think mine is red and it was on sale. The shop said they didn't sell one in months and as soon as it went on sale, they sold 4 or 5.
Unfortunately the options for decent 26" hard tails are pretty slim right now, unless you want a dirt jump bike. On that note, does anyone know of any company that makes a carbon fiber hard tail with dual slalom geometry? That would be my dream bike.
Yeap, they had exactly one 26 in stock, a full suspension Specialized. Hippy Joe has a 26 that I'm crushing on.
26 26 all the way, no option for technicial riding cotic BFE fox 36, dropper post ( best invention after MTB disk brakes ) 1x10 ://[/IMG]
across the pond try the Cotic, Soul and BFE or On-One 456 Evo in Carbon, steel or Ti just built up the 456 Evo Ti, slack head and goes like a rocket up or down.
That a Surly Krampus? I tried a Pugsley and that was freaky deaky. The Krampus was a large and there was no one to give me a boost to get on it to try.
It's a Pugsley; at my size, (6'8") I just make it look like a Krampus... It's seriously fun, like riding a 2-wheeled tank. I can more or less just bomb any line. Riding it feels like being 12 all over again.
