Craigslist scam check: Is paypal safe?

You guys think this is legit? I'm selling a diamond ring and I've gotten the usual bullshit responses and a couple local folks interested, but this one's from out-of-state and requesting to pay via paypal. Scam or no? And if she pays w/ Paypal and I immediately transfer the money out to a bank account, could she potentially still screw me out of the loot somehow? I want CASH IN HAND before this ring goes out the door.

-----------------------------------
Good to have your reply. I am Amy Themm, from Palatine, IL. and would
have loved to come and inspect this ring at your place myself, but I
am a very busy woman and have a wholesale business that I manage
presently. Pls just make sure this item is in condition described. I
will appreciate more pictures if available and will be sending your
money asap. Do you have paypal account? because, I have a paypal
account that I use for my business and easily send money out without
delay to my customers since it's good for business payments. Get back
to me with your paypal email address and name in order for me to have
your money sent on time. And is this your final asking price?.
regards
Amy Themm

If she has paypal, she can just as easily get the cash and send a cashiers check (which you hold for 10 business days), or find someone to come out and pick it up and pay you the cash.

Scam. Offers to pay before determining really how to do it. Grammar inconsistencies that make me think they are foreign.

For the owner of a wholesale business who is very busy...she sucks at negotiation.

Like I said. Scam.

Paypal is safe, she is phoney. She's not a she. She's a scammer in a foreign land. They can get PayPal accounts, too.

Simple. She pays first. Take the $ out of your Paypal account,. and also shut off the Paypal connection to your bank or credit card. Then ship the ring insured by FedEx, Adult Signature required, no forwarding allowed. Photograph the ring, the packaging, the FedEx Shipping Bill of Lading, etc.

Well, it's about an hour away from me. Wouldn't be the first time I've helped someone out on the Beeb.

Did a quick google search for her name and palatine, IL but didn't see anything.

I've payed someone through Paypal and have received a Paypal payment through Craigslist.

However, that is a scam. Simply based on the awkward grammar, as 2fer & Rubber said.

craigslist is meant for more personal transactions. they are seperated by city/region so you can pick up items in person or whatever. its meant to be local, and when i post shit on there, i WONT ship it, and take cash only.

Total scam. When the buyer refers to the diamond ring or motorcycle as "the item" you know its a scam.

Tell her you have a friend in IL that you can send the ring to so she can buy it with cash locally. I'm sure a trusted beeb member from near there would help you out for a couple bucks. But, I'm sure its a scam. It seems that scammers always include extra information to try to legitimize their story:
am a very busy woman and have a wholesale business that I manage
presently.
Stay away.. or ask for a faxed copy of her drivers license to varify.

Cash only pal ! PayPal may side with the buyer in any discrepency. Your funds may be withdrawln from your bank account even if they were once withdrawln from PayPal.

If you have any doubts, don't jump!

Money cannot be withdrawn from your bank acct by Paypal without permission. This is the scam I'm familiar with. The person buys the ring and then claims it's not in the condition the buyer says by presenting photos of another ring that's damaged. Paypal refunds buyer's money and tries to collect it from the seller!
