I got a call from Scott Smallwood tonight. He was in an accident at a race in VIR with USGPRU this Sunday. It was bad.

As it stands, Scott is NOT paralyzed but broke his c4 c5 bones in his neck after hitting the tire wall head first. He is currently awake and sedated, but is going to be transported to Chapel Hill from ICU hospital in Danville. Erin and Max his son, plus other friends, are by his side.

Scott's a good friend of mine. Please keep him in your thoughts

I have very little info, but from what I heard 3rd hand he ran off at 'The Hogpen' at a high rate if speed. The bike bottomed out in a divot and threw Scott off the bike, headfirst into the tire wall.

That's the most I know at this time.

Update (from a fellow USGPRU racer):

As of 2:30am Sunday, Smallwood was allowed to be transported to a closer hospital with a neurologist on site. I'm not 100% on the name, but I know he's allowed to go by van. Purslow says he's cracking jokes and appears to be getting along well with the staff.

Fingers crossed, I've gotta get back on the road from Hillsville.
