Yamaha EXUP Motor Eliminator

I came across a set of schematics for an emulator that allows you to completely remove your EXUP motor without getting an engine code. I just put one together for myself and it works great. I have a '99 wich does the tach dance if there are any codes, so just taping over a check engine light was not an option. The mod should work for most any year since the servo didn't really change. This this is easy to build and cost me less that $10.

If you would like a copy of the schematic and documentation, shoot me an e-mail. Per the information provided by the designer, you are welcome to make this for your own personal use, but not for resale. My prototype is a mess of wires, but it works. I will probably make a second to clean thigs up a bit.

Edit: e-mail me at ccpeterson@yahoo.com

Looks a little complicated when a simple resistor will do...

The reason this was put together is because the resistor mod does not work 100%. The 7.5K resistor fools the ECU into thinking the EXUP servo is always at full open and can drive error code 18 (stuck EXUP) when the ignition is on, but the motor off. This mod actually simulates the signal response the servo would normally provide.

For the newer R1s, this isn't too much or a problem but for those of us on the carbed bikes, the the "check engine light" is the tach which constantly jumps from 0-8K and back.

You can jump it with a resistor, or do it this way - your choice. Just thought I would throw this up for anyone interested.

This think is only 1.5 X 1.5 Inches an weighs almost nothing. Will open up some space under the tank and cut down the weight (not that 1 lb makes much of a difference).

For anyone into electronics or likes a small challange, it is a fun project. I did have my EXUP servo just tucked away, but now I don't have to worry about it.
