2006 R6…..On the Dyno.

Well, it’s a screamer!

110.9 hp on pump gas at 14.5K and 114.6hp on MR9 at the same RPM. As anticipated the mid range SUCKS!

R6 on pump and R6 on MR9.

Sucks bad….as much as 20hp down on a 05 R6 at 10.K and almost 15ft-lbs of torque. 05 bone stock R6 on top of the 06 R6.

Even the 05 GSXR600 is stronger through the middle. The is a bone stock GSXR layed on top of a 06 R6.

And the final kicker.....here is a dyno curve with a built SS legal 05 R6 layed on top of an 06 R6 pull. If you run into a real SS R6 with your shiny new 06...your going to get stomped!

One thing we have confirmed……THIS BIKE DOES NOT REV TO 17.5K!! It says up to 18K on the tach before the rev limiter kicks in, but the tach signal on the dyno says 16.2K. Sorry…..nice marketing campaign, but not real. Maybe with a kit ECU….but not stock……and with a kit ECU it will show 19.5K…

A couple of other odd things that we have noticed so far:

1.)If you remove the kick stand bracket the shift lever pivot goes with it…..that means rear sets for EVERYBODY.

2.)You have to remove the shift linkage to take the oil filter off….

3.)The voltage regulator is mounted on the front of the radiator…..not crash friendly.

4.)The stock bodywork is made up of about 15 different pieces…..

5.)The oil pan is shaped like W.

6.)The tail section is TINY. I have no idea how you will be able to do numbers on these bikes.

7.)The bike has a lambda sensor stock.

8.)The generator cover is really thin….just like the old kit stuff.

Overall, its a killer bike....an absolute screamer and the chassis is really cool. Very much like a TZ....but it is extremely lacking in mid range power.

Gotta love that 17,500 RPM redline too!

Well, if you can keep it spinning between 13,000 and 14,000 (with some rev over) you have some good hp.

Chip, when do you put the '06 GSXR600 on the dyno?

Can you plot Torque vs AFR for the 05/06 R6 and GSXR ??

Great info. Thank you very much. Looks like until some engine work is done to get that mid-range up to where it should be, you'll have to treat the 06 like a 2 stroke and only play in the 12-16k powerband. Guess it's a good thing I've been racing 2 strokes and used to only having a 3k rpm window to play with. Lots of shifting people... lots of shifting.

Did anybody notice the difference between a KWS built 05 R6 at 10K and a stock R6 at 10K?

30hp and and 16ft-lbs of Torque!!!!!

Man, that is like the difference between a 600 and 750!

Matt - I don't have those dyno pulls saved, e-mail and I will make you a pull of whatever you want.

Chip, this has to be one of your better posts. I don't have anything to be bitter about on this one. Good Job!

Didn't you say the 05 is a Supersport built motor? I've noticed most bikes stock tend to have huge dips in the middle of the powerband (the 03 R6 had a huge dip at 8k as i recall), but a bit of work and proper mapping cleans all the up and you get a nice gain in both mid-range with a nicer lineal curve and in top end, and even some more over-rev. By the way, I'm not looking forward to seeing how crappy a stock Cali model looks on a dyno.

Now lets see an AMA SS legal 06 R6 and compare it to the SS 05 R6 dyno. Looking at the Daytona results, it would appear that the R6 has lots of potential in that stock motor!

Correct....the last Dyno graph shown is a 05 KWS built SS R6 vs. a bone stock 06 R6.

I want to see what an SS 06 R6 will do to and I will tell you in a few weeks....

Not to sound like a dick but what do you think the 06 will do once it has a pipe and PC on it. I mean sure stock 06 to a "SS legal" 05 it may get stomped but what happens when it gets the same work done to it? I mean it already has more HP out of the box than the 05's had so.............
Also expecting it to rev 2,000 rpm more than the previous model I expect the new one to have a huge hole in the middle so I am not real surprised about that.
However I do hope that gap to be made up somewhat once work gets performed on it through tuning. I would also expect a kit ECU allow a tuner to have the ability with the new fly by wire set up to find a way to get more power out of it than the other 600's at this point.
Anyways all I am asking is for your opinion.

Again.....apples to oranges......bone stock 06 vs built 05 is not fair.......but a pipe and a PC is NOT going to make up the difference.

I am really excited to see what this thing makes built.....really excited. As I get more info I will post it....

Building the motor, a real pipe, PC, MR9, etc.....will make the motor better, no question......will we be able to make up the mid range defict? I don't know........I don't think so......but we shall see.

The bike is tuned/built to be a screamer...all the power is on top and confined to a narrow powerband....why, I don't know...but it is impressive.

Chip,
This info has been awesome by the way. I already posted a couple links to this thread on the www.r6messagenet.com board. Not sure if you have seen the graph done by Graves Motorsports with their full system (no engine work and not even sure if they added a PCIII or custom mapping???) but it added 10 more hp at 10k. Here's the link:
http://www.gravesport.com/Tech_Suppo...sSOvsStock.pdf

I look forward to seeing a SS modded 06 R6 on the dyno. I'm guessing 125-127 rwhp.

I cant wait to see what the massaged 06 in SS trim looks like. Chip once you get they dyno runs for the worked 06 be sure to post your bolt on mods too...exhaust type, air filter, pc3 ign module ect... Still waiting on mine

also yours shows 16200 rpm for the cut off and graves shows 15900 rpm...I am sure they got a cali version...I wonder if that matters. I would bet the kit ecu adds 1000 rpm at least, just like it did on the 05's

Yep, seen the graves pull and it matches ours for the stock/MR9 stuff.....so the 117hp peak number is most likely a good number.

I am not going to guess on an SS build yet........but we shall see.
