Being the owner of an SV and a 650 Kaw, where do you believe LWTs will evolve to within the next 3 to 5 years? Will the SV still be the king of the class? Will the class structure need to be amended to some degree to allow more participants? Hell my RC51 was totally uncompetitive in HWTs and would have been better suited in the LWT class. There are other big twins that may be a better fit as well. Another possibility: unlimited mods allowed in superstock for twins such as the Honda Hawk. Being a twin fan, want to see the class grow. Simpler bikes, less intimidating HP for many, and the opportunity to sniff Ghetto Custom's exhaust! And this is in no way a criticism of WERA's class structure, which is by far the best of any org. I simply would like to see grids grow in all classes by possibly re-examining class allowances. And Mongo, don't tell me I'm full of shit cause I have known that for quite awhile!
RC51 in LW? Morris, don't drink the bong water.... FZ07 might be a competitive bike for LW. Lets hope Yammie adds it to their contingency program. The rules need to stay the way they are. The only change I'd like to see is open up F2 and allow the exotic air cooled Ducatis in. The SVs will be around for years to come and it will still be the bike to have for WERA LW. No reason to open up the rules for the Hawk. It can compete competitively in D superstock. As the older big v twins become uncompetitive, they are allowed in V7 hwt. No reason to stick big bikes in LW because they become obsolete. That's what the other big org does and their LW rules package is now a mess.
The RC has no place in LWT. It's a turd yes but relative to the SV it makes a crap ton more power and will run away every time the track straightens out.
Not all of them. Maybe turd was a little harsh. Non-competitive as introduced to the public. Whatever they built inside of the RC51 bodywork for WSBK and the AMA was obviously much better than what we got.
You either had a turd of an RC51, raced the wrong region, or had really fast HWT Twins racers. The RC51 up here in the Mid-Atlantic fared pretty well. Hell, he was two seconds, the overall winner in the HWT SB race at VIR as a novice! http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/2397541 http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/2397389 BSS= http://www.mylaps.com/en/classification/2397740?perClass=1
I'm interested to see how this works out. On paper it looks promising. Zoran, have you started setting one up yet?
The DS1000 is allowed in SBK and F2 in SS trim. I'd like to see air cooled Duc powered superbikes in F2 (just F2) like the Bimota DB5R, Pierobon, built Paul Smarts, hybrids, etc
A little of both. I own one and here's what I'll say. They are a good bike. Fun to ride and as novice machine you can win races on them. However making the jump to expert on them and trying to keep up with a modern GSXR750 is a waste of time and likely hazardous to your health. The same goes for all of the current modern big twins. They are just a flat out better bike at this point and winning expert races on a 51 would be like winning the lottery.
^ This..... I don't own one but that has always been what I have heard about them. Just like my buddy getting a TLR and running that. He had fun and all, but would get blown away on an expert grid when the big boys showed up.
When you come flattrack with us, I'm sticking a donut to Caleb's rear fender to get you up to speed quicker.
