Losail Track Day???

Okay, so here I am deployed to Iraq. In a few weeks, I will be going to Al Udeid AB in Doha, Qatar for a few weeks for work, and I will have some spare time on my hands.

My question is- Do they have a trackday org at Losail? I remember reading somewhere about a local trackday club with R6's and gear. I tried to load the Losail circuit website, with no luck. Anybody have details?

Cheers,
Retz

If you have means of calling the main number at the track, I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction.

Good luck (and stay safe!)

Check out a place called "The Pit Stop":

Airport Road
Ad Doha, Qatar
Phone: +974 4551500

There is a young woman who runs the place (if she still does - I was there in 05) and knows just about everything there is know about Losail and the circuit.

Modawi. She's a good person to get intouch with out there. Not only is she the best resource for racing she's also the ex Prime Minister's daughter. She has some good insight on the country.

There was an Aussie (Martin) out there doing rider schools last year.

That's it! I was emailing her on-and-off when I was considering moving out there while I was looking for a job, but lost touch with her when it fell through.

Qatar is a neat little place from what little I saw in the 2 weeks I was there. Construction 24/7, modern, and seems to be building on financial institutions and natural gas over tourism. But man, I was there at the end of August. The heat is insane and I'm not sure if it would even be possible to run a track day this time of year without bikes overheating by dozens.

As others can attest as well, the natives normally ditch town for the summer for somewhere more... North'ish. IIRC, the locals get 50 days off a year? Not sure about the actual number, but something like that.

Yea, but 'locals' are only 10% of the population. Most of the people in Qatar are foreigners doing all the work.

Still, it's on my list of places to see. Throw in an evening track day in there, and I'm there!

I was contemplating a trip there to see MotoGP, especially now that it's a night race. The low attendance would be also be a nice change form the usual GP madness. Too bad the flights are F'n expensive as Hell

It is a neat country. I was there in November/ December last year, so the weather was pretty good only 80 degrees. Doha is going to be really nice once all the cunstruction is finished.
