Can you tell if a bike is R6R or R6S by VIN?

I need to know if there is a certain number within the VIN that I can look at and say ok x means its a r model and y means its a s model without having to punch it in website.

 

Why the paranoia?

 

Trying to help a friend out who is planning on buy some bikes

 

If the year is in the VIN and it’s before 2005 it’s an S.

2006 to present are your R6r

UH no and WTF?

Let me get into the office tomorrow and have a look at the DB, but I think it can be done. They made the R6S until 2009 and essentially pre 2006 they used to refer to the R6S as an R6, but it was really the R6S, and then in 2006 when they released the R6 they had the R6S (the pre 2006 model) and the new R6 and then continued with production of the R6S until 2009.
Actually I am sure I have this data in the office

 

Like Critter said, the S was the designation for the 2003/2004 version that was made from 2006-2009.

 

I forgot they kept that model for a couple years after they released the 2006. Oops. Sorry.

 

The YZFR6S will have a pattern starting with JYARJO6 the R6 will have a pattern of JYARJ1 that from the Model Identification manual from Yamaha

So if it is J0 it is a R6S if it is J1 it is a R6 or R6 special edition
