Has anyone ever heard, or been? found on u tubie...and curious..! if worth the travel.?

 

Yes. Go. Well worth it even if you are not in the area for some other reason.
If you ARE in the area and still don't manage a visit, it will haunt you for the rest of your living days.

It’s a great place to see. The guys there are so knowledgeable and love shooting the shot about the bikes they have. Then they’ll start ‘‘em up just to make you smile. Definitely worth the stop.

 

Wasn't that place on one of the discovery or motortrend programs? Perhaps Chassing Classic Cars? If that's what om thinking of it seemed like a must visit.

 

If anyone ever has a reason to visit Bloomsburg, PA, we have Bill's Old Bike Barn and Museum.
It's a different kind of experience, but worth a look cuz there's fuckall else to do in Bloomsburg unless the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals or State Fair is in town.

The show was called “What’s in the Barn?”, featuring the late Dale Walksler, who founded Wheels Through Time.

 

Well worth the effort. All old stuff that you don't see anymore except on TV auctions. A friend of mine was there and they had a Pope which just happened to be his last name. Dale came over and got the Pope MC running and probably talked with Rick for half a hour.

We stay at a shitty motel across the way from there every year when we go riding down there. It’s a great place to spend a rain day.

 

At the top of the stairs to the 2nd floor is a poster with our own Al Wilcox's name for placing at Loudon back in the day.
The guy showing us around had no idea who he was so we got to teach him something that he could pass on.

 

Don’t forget to take twisty 19 out of Maggy Valley into Cherokee and eat at our resident BBSers restaurant Granny’s right across from the casino.

It has been a while since I was there, but it was a great experience. My step-dad, even though an ex-flat tracker and road racer (he raced on the beach at Daytona!), was always required a little coaxing to go to such a place, although he generally enjoys it once he gets there. But, it was a nice day trip from their place, and my wife ant I wanted to visit it while we were up there, so off we went.

It is a targeted collection (old American bikes), but unbelievably extensive within that category. It was the middle of the day on a weekday and the crowd was light. As we were walking around, the man himself (Dale) came over when we were looking at the "American Racers" exhibit. They had the lifetime collection of a famous flat-tracker (embarrassingly, try as I might, I can't remember who it was), and struck up a conversation.

Once he found out about my step-dad's history, he lit up. We ended up getting an extensive VIP guided tour, with bikes we were interested in explained and often started up. We were walked around the restoration shop, and other "behind the scenes" stuff. Dale even offered to let me ride one of the military Harleys out of the museum and around the parking lot. Regrettably, I wimped out. It feels like a missed opportunity now, but at that time, I was concerned about what I'd do if I dumped it in the parking lot. But, I heard stories from my step-dad I hadn't heard before then. He had a blast, a great day.

So, great memories of a great place. We always planned on going back (and did once, but it was unexpectedly closed). After hearing the bad news about Dale passing, I felt bad for not going back and thanking him for that day with my step-dad.

He will be missed, but the torch has been passed, and the museum is in good hands. You may not get the same experience I had, but still a very worthwhile experience.

 

His son Matt runs it and probably knows just as much as the old man did.

Went for a visit about 15 years ago when they were located in TN or NC, can't remember. Was a very nice visit. Some of my friends even got to ride an old trike they had. All their stuff works and the owner will gladly start some of them for you. Definitely worth the detour.
