We've lost another good one.

Well, rat's. I just heard that John Glenn has passed away. He was 95. An American hero for sure.

Rest in Peace.

Read about him being evaced out of Antarctica last week....

 

That was Buzz Aldrin.

 

Another real American hero, gone. RIP.

 

Big loss. He was a fearless man back when we really needed those fearless men.

Can't imagine what it must have been like sitting on top of one of those bombs..

RIP to one of my childhood heroes. Growing up in the 60s the space program was the stuff of dreams.

 

The Right Stuff was one of my favorite movies, going to have to give it another watch shortly if not tonight. Those guys were all real heroes. For him to pass the day after Pearl Harbor Day is quite interesting considering that event was an initial call to action for him.
Just sad. I hope Buzz isn't next, considering he is still recovering in the hospital.

 

Put 'em in a spacesuit and they all look the same...

 

This is but the next trip for you, John Glenn.

 

Not to take anything away from either astronaut but I was thinking of another space man when I read the title...

The success rate for the Atlas rockets when Glenn launched (sitting atop an Atlas rocket) was a touch over 50%. I recall reading they had just watched two of them explode in the months prior.

 

Just watched a doc on his flight, svc that's pretty damned accurate. Huge balls.
