Any particular reason you want an 08 versus an 06? The differences are almost all cosmetic and the 06 looks better (to me). Just curious.
Bike shop mechanic local to me said go for an '07 or newer. He didn't give a specific reason. I assumed Suzuki worked out some kinks or it's just a new gen.
The only quirk that i know of was the location of the rectifier. It's right next to the exhaust header and would over heat. Thus ruining in the stator in the process. The easy fix was to relocate it on the outside of the frame like the newer GSXR's are now located. The '08 has the ABC mode selector which is all but useless. It was the lst attempt at a traction control system of sorts for the GSXR. '08 has electronic steering damper....again useless, since you would probably be getting aftermarket. But once you remove the electronic oem damper you'll get an error code. You'll have to bypass the wires or buy a plug to eliminate the error code that you will get. '08 rims are slightly lighter. '08 front rotors are 6 bolt pattern vs 5 bolt on other years Some changes to fuel injection on '08. Not 100% sure, but some claim 06/07 actually made more power, or was/is easier to get more power out of. Biggest thing for some is the '08 has the catalytic converter welded into the header. So to eliminate the converter, you either have to get an entire aftermarket exhaust system. Or, cut the converter off, source a link/mid-pipe and then fit a slip-on from an 06/07. Or use an 06/07 header with an 06/07 slip-on. Frames, swingarms, mounting points on frame.....are the same. Wheels, forks, rearsets, triples, hand controls(except abc mode control), etc....are all interchangeable. Wiring harness, tank, bodywork, subframe are different. But you can put an 06/07 engine into an 08, you just need the 06/07 electronics, airbox, tank. The fuel outlet on the 06'/07' is different than the 08. It's in the opposite direction. Point is, differences between 06/07 and 08/09 aren't significant performance wise. It all depends on the bike you find, what's on it, and the price. But i would definitely widen your search to include 06/07.
You've definitely opened my eyes... I will include the '06/'07 in my search. Thanks for your expertise!
I've got an 08 750, former Robbie Jensen bike. Yosh ECU, duel map selector 1 map for pump gas the other for VP MR-12, newer salvage motor that had 1200 miles on it, mild head work by KWS, degreed cams, quick shifter, 2 sets of wheels, R6 calipers and master cylinder, keyless start, keyless gas cap, Ohilins 25 mil front, Penske triple rear, ful leo vince system with extra can, extra set of rear sets, lots of gearing. No title it was an MSO bike (never titled) bike was purchased from Olathe Suzuki outside of Kansas City. Originally blue and yellow now sea foam green. What happens when you start an endurance race on your sprint bike, but you'll see the bike is fast.
2009 GSX-R 750... complete go win a club championship (or a track day) set up. I won 3 unlimited class championships and one heavyweight class championship, along with 5 track championships, and 2 third places at the race of champions on this bike this year. I was two whiskey’s in when I responded to this, I’ll get you a price soon. I really love this bike so I’m not going to give it away but I’m not riding it enough.
Asking $4500 for everything...I’m open to offers. I also forgot to mention I have a clear salvage title for it, and it has a keyless gas cap and a vortex lever guard... I’m sure there’s other stuff I’m forgetting, and like I said I’m willing to take stuff off or spell spares separately to make a deal.
Neenah, WI, but I’m heading to Jennings at the end of February and could probably meet along that route with it if things worked out. It has 23,000 miles, most of which were street miles, it had somewhere over 20,000 when I bought it and converted it a couple years ago. I won quite a few unlimited races on it this year, including at Road America (albeit in the rain) so it definitely still has some giddyup.
My OCD keeps me a little too fussy... I don't mind paying more for a bike that is in really nice shape. I've been told the 750 is a good choice for me do to my size - 6'2" 210lbs. I'm open to other options as well... thanks for all the replies... just looking for something really nice.
I was 6’3” 315 when I started riding mine, down to 240 now... the extra power definitely helps a little, but keep in mind the frame and ergos are identical to the 600, just a bigger engine and a few other supporting pieces.
Im 6.'2 210 to 230 depending on the week and how weak I am on diet I have the 07 750 and an 03 750 (03 in the avatar)before I tossed it down Barber. I have had mine tuned and Traxxion front and Penske rear set to my weight. That is a BIG thing for larger riders. more so that HP - IMO. Ill have more to add when my battery recharges... LOL
