So I have a yz450 (2015) that I never ride anymore on the dirt.

After some internet surfing I thought this was a cool idea to do with it? Thoughts?

Kits are cheating. You have to improvise and do it all yourself.

The few times I've been on track with the converted dirtbikes, those guys were putting them to good use and having fun. Might be worth it if you don't ride dirt anymore, so might as well put the 450 to use.

We built a 501 Maico-based roadracer decades ago. It was the cats' ass around Oak Hill/Henderson. It blew up on the front straight at Texas World. I was good with that...

Any idea of the cost of that kit? Looks uber expensive. I had a similar issue as you (still ride dirt but wanted to make my bike more versatile) so I grabbed a warp 9 kit with some sticky tires and an upgraded rotor.

Haven’t taken it yet (stuff just got delivered a coupla days ago) but word around the campfire is it’s stupid fun at the NJMP cart tracks. My TTR 125 is really fun there so a multiple of that power with some grownup brakes is going to be a hoot

Bodywork looks bad ass. What does the finished product weigh in at?

I’ve seen kits anywhere between 3-4 grand.

I’ve heard a 450 is not as fun at the NJMP as the smaller bikes. I looked at doing a supermoto conversion just for that but for all that it would take the gp conversion is not much more expensive

^ I put one together back in the day. A CRF 450 motor in a hawk chassis.

You don't need to do a full conversion(bodywork and all), but it is definitely more aerodynamic. I road raced my full length suspension 04 YZ450 for a few seasons, and loved it. It did ruin my 600 racing though, so I parted it out. Wish I still had it as it was 10 years ago.

Great idea. Converted yzf450s are great fun to ride and are reliable (with just a few mods)

Roland Sands and some others pushed that idea about 10 years ago. They ended up being way too expensive for what they were. You're much better off just building a Supermoto, or transplanting your 450 motor into an older 125/250 GP bike frame.

My thing is to go full supermoto isn’t cheap ether. Minus crashing is way cheaper I’m assuming
