I think it's leftists pushing the envelope to see where the edge is. Nothing more, nothing less. I just read today that VA is drafting similar legislation, although it has yet to be voted on.

Here's the thing. I'm likely similar to Mongo with regards to abortion. I don't like the idea of it being used as contraception, but I'm ok with it and the idea of unwanted children born out if wedlock, yada yada yada. Rape, incest, unintentional pregnancy, teen pregnancy, etc. all make sense to me, provided it's early term. Two months in and you discover you're pregnant, the choice is yours. The late term abortion past the point the fetus could survive outside the womb is just murder without a charge. An exception can be made to save the mother from death due to complications, but that's about it. From what I've read, this law is without cause. That's just wrong. Sorry.
For all the pundits, this is coming from a pro choice, fiscal conservative, social moderate that believes in individual freedoms.
What I don't think the left has calculated is the level to which this will turn "I don't really give a shit, it's your body do what you want" people like myself into anti abortion folks.
Roe v. Wade always seemed safe to me as it's a political shit show that no moderate wants to engage. This push from the left could change that and the courts are no longer in their favor.
Oh well, not like anyone's accusing liberals of being smart anyway. Sink your ship assholes!

No abortions are performed to save the life of the mother.

There is no big push to overturn Roe v Wade because that
would kick it back to the individual states to control.
Instead, they will work to protect human life from the point of conception.
The most basic right is the right to life.
The resulting laws could possibly be more stringent than before Roe v Wade.

Point of view of a pro-choicer as well.

Mind you I am pro-choice if the pregnancy risks the mother's life.

Why can't we just refer to them as sexual nomads?

the reason the closing of ranks broke so quickly, other than the heinousness of his actions, is that the Lt. Gov who will replace Northam is a rising Dem star and mentioned as the next Obama. Unfortunately, that Lt. Gov is now being accused of rape.
