I still can't believe the stuff we had laying around the basement. Bcpd tear gas grenades, parachutes. I remember the neighbors from the next block over to complain he had set the tree in front of their house on fire with a phosphorus flare. That sort of put an end to the "fireworks".
Winner! And it was handheld after all. Note barrel length - https://www.gunauction.com/buy/10587502 .I wonder what the recoil was like
My father is a ww2 weapons/tactics nut. He's telling me it could also be 37mm anti tank/tow gun round. He says every country used them during the war until about then and that they were very common. The aluminum casing is the thing that makes me wonder but I know virtually nothing.. I did find pics of almost identical in brass though.
I'm leaning toward it being a signal flare because of the aluminum. Stands to reason that there would be just enough explosive to launch the flare reducing the recoil with most of the contents being phosphorus and the parachute mentioned above. Plus the length of the barrel of the gun used is slightly longer than the round itself. I know next to nothing about this also - just a guess.
Some of you have to know what this is so if you use one please allow a few guesses for fun and no Googling. My wife asked me if I knew what it was and my first guess of asscrack cleaner was wrong.
I was thinking a handle to pick up something hot that the star end locks into, but the other end seems awfully sharp/pointy for that.
