Now that both The New York Times and the Washington Post have reported that the economy is not only improving but doing so at a record pace AND attributed the improvement to Bush's tax cuts we will stop seeing it referred to as the Bush Economy, no doubt.

Who cares what they call it as long as we can get back to the days of the "Clinton Economy".

PS: Seriously, let's hope that this is not just a flash in the pan or temporary up turn.

gee, best growth in 20 years, but I sure didn't read YOUR take in any article as a certainty

Off an AP wire story: "Many national experts wondered whether the positive economic news would lead to higher job growth, or whether the growth was a result of leaner operations resulting from years of downsizing. "

tax cuts might stimulate, but ya seen that little thing called the deficit? it's like losing your income and living on a credit card, gonna be hell to pay back

If Georgie did it, he deserves the credit, but I'll hold back on the high praise till we see if it's a momentary hiccup or long range

Is it not like going from 2:20 to 2:00 at Daytona? Huge improvement, but...

More seriously, Bush has no more to do with the economy than Clinton did. They're all just taking credit for other people's work when the economy is good. Of course, one could argue that they appoint those smarter people so they deserve credit for something.

    Re: Re: The Bush Economy

I was referring to statements made in articles in the Post and Times and consider them as remarkable since they are so loathe to say anything good about Bush or his administration.

As far as the defecit, increased business eventually translates to increases in tax revenue which will help to pay that defecit down.
Of course, as long as the populace insists on government as parent and provider, the defecits will increase.
I'm not happy with everything Bush is doing either, his prescription drug benefit promises to be one more horrendously expensive program we can't afford. Add that to a refusal to address Medicaid and that magnificent Ponzi scheme called Social Security and my kids will be paying 75% of their income to support others.
Socialism just doesn't work, no matter how you dress it up or what trendy label you hang on it. It runs contrary to basic human nature.

My snappy retort: I agree. that's why the people of Seden, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, are rising up against their Socialist oppressors.;)

But this is a serious issue and i wonder what you think of the success of those and other socialist economies.

It's funny that the Treasury also has about $100B more than the CBO forecast right now, due to the "tax cuts," which they can't explain. That same song is heard every time tax rates are cut; the CBO NEVER manages to predict the rise in revenues and always overstates the "cost" of the rate cut.

We won't even get into the notion that taking less money from the citizenry somehow "costs" the government money, as if it's their money to begin with.

That's quite different from the phrase in your opening statement
What you've done is known as "cowboy journalism" or selecting out of context. Naughty, naughty, naughty tactic, you're grounded for the rest of the week

Bob, what are you smoking today?
I refered to articles in two specific newspapers known for their liberal stances and commented on what they said. I've re-read my post several times, it is in plain English and simply stated. You have to do some pretty creative semantics parsing to read into it anything other than what I wrote. Perhaps you can explain just what you see here that is out of context.
Does "reporting" and "statements made in articles" really mean something totally different to you?

Was anyone else out there confused as to what I was saying?

I am astonished about how good many Europeans have it and why they haven't bankrupted themselves decades ago.

Don't the Germans get like 8 weeks vacation every year?

And let's not get started with the Swedes. . .

If only American workers had it so good.

this is my longest post since 9/29 for those of you keeping track.

Re: Re: Re: Re: The Bush Economy

You mean Saddam's war? Let's not forget whose actions led to this whole mess. If you have forgotten, we've had troops enforcing the no-fly zone in Iraq for over a decade, the result of Saddam invading another country and engaging in ethnic cleansing. All he needed to do to avoid war was comply with UN inspections. It's amazing how so many now paint the US as the aggressor here and Saddam is given a pass for all his transgrssions.
And at least it's money spent for defense, which is the actual job of the federal government, not importing half the world's population and then supporting them with social programs.
Bush has so far spent a couple hundred billion on Iraq, perhaps you could tell us how many hundreds of billions have been spent on social programs that seem to only increase the need for more social programs. The war on poverty has resulted in more poor people in the US than before it started.

And before you even bring it up, yes, I believe in this case that a strong offense is the best defense. We've backed-down and placated too many times and all it does is buy us further aggression, threats and terrorism. The lesson of Iraq wasn't lost on North Korea.
Of course, the enemy we are fighting in Iraq is counting on us to lose our sense of commitment and run away as has happened in Somalia, Lebanon, etc.
Their hopes are constantly bolstered by that element in the US who "support our troops, but not the war".
Guess what, that isn't supporting the troops. When you give hope to the enemy that they can win if they only hang in there long enough to wear down our resolve and pull our troops, you only encourage further terrorist attacks upon those troops.

But I know, it's your right to speak out. God forbid you all should excercise some restraint and TRUELY support our troops.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: The Bush Economy

I think you can fake it for a while but sooner or later the bills will come due and there won't be enough people left producing anything of value to pay them. Social Security is the perfect example.
