Looking for a good quality tank foam and where to purchase from.

Also, how much would be needed to fill a 7.5 gallon tank?

    A gallon is 231 cu in...so 7.5 x 231= 1732.5 cu in...'ish.

Seems like a lot, but that's the same result I got.

It will compress and follow the curves...I get 7 to allow for that and the fuel pump.

I'd also use a plastic bag with the ends cut off to slide the foam thru, to avoid getting shreds inside the tank from forcing the open cells past the sharp edges on the opening.

^^This is a very important step.

We also took a blow gun to the foam to make sure there wasn't any stray pieces of foam waiting to find it's way to your pump filter.

Great idea I should have done that

Should I keep the foam in as large of pieces as possible? This is going into a custom made fuel cell that I can reach my hand all the way inside. There is no fuel pump in the tank, as it's carbureted. .

  13. and here i thought you were just some dumb welder :) This is a very important step, i used to use one of those plastic sheet covers for a binder and make a funnel of sorts.

Personal preference, but yep, I like the larger blocks as long as you get them to stuff in and stay in place.

I liked a doubled up cutoff bread sack. (Bread sacks are also great for riding in the rain to keep your feet dry inside your boots.)

What's the current suggested stuff? Summit has about 5 different brands, also found Speedway Motors offering foam for about half the price of Summit, same size blocks, they say theirs is approved for E85/alcohol while Summit just says 'gas'?

That's the best price I've seen, and no crazy shipping, thanks!

I'd replace it every couple years (at least), especially with race fuel.

I've used the SpeedwayMotors foam. It's been in my R6 since 2017 and has been moved between fuel tanks a few times - no issues.
