So I'm trying to accumulate spare parts in the event of a get off and wondered where most experience racers stop. Do most bring enough parts to practically put the whole bike back together or is there a minimum or happy medium? I realize this is reliant on if you're chasing a championship and personal opinions, but just trying to get some thoughts on the subject. Buying parts that you may not use can tie up funds that could be spent on tires, fees ect... My list so far is only: clip-ons rearsets levers I'm debating buying: fairing stay subframe extra set of race glass rims rotors Helmet
Get yourself a small kit of fasteners (there will be some common stuff for your machine, make a list so shopping for it is easier). Make sure you have the safety wire and safety wire tool handy, as well as a selection of zip ties. And Duct tape. Never forget the duct tape. Get yourself a 'wets' box and bring it with you: water wetter, oil, fork oil, chain lube, cleaners, WD-40, etc. Keep this separate from your garage stock.
I would definately have a spare helmet and gloves. If you hit the deck and your helmet takes a good smack it's junk and you're done for the wkend even if you're ok. Bring a spare of everything you can afford, even the stuff that you think " I'll never need that ". Weird shit happens in crashes and you'll break things you never thought of, don't ask me how I know.
My opinion based on cost/real world neccessity: YES on the fairing stay. YES on the subframe. Wheels/rotors... no unless you plan on mounting rain tires on them, then yes. But I wouldn't just to have as spares. Extra bodywork - no Helmet - big expense but yes I'd add: -front brake fluid reservoir -right hand controls -windscreen
ADD TO YOUR LIST: RADIATOR MASTER CYLINDER / RESEVOIR / CAP / FLUID ENGINE MOUNT BOLTS (if you have frame sliders) EXHAUST SPRINGS GAS TANK (pump optional) REMOVE FROM YOUR LIST: race glass rims rotors
Bike the exact same bike and have it as a backup. By the time you have all the spares, you could almost build a complete bike.
normally i like to have the following as my spares: clip ons radioator windscreen master cyl. rear sets levers tank clutch bolts pads gearing triple prolly more but that gives you a good idea
Just run an R6 or GSXR and you can bum spares off others. In all honesty, you will never have ALL the correct spares...murphy's law. Having a common bike really helps.
+1 - when you do get rear sets / clip ons , make sure you get something that the trackside vendors will have in stock at the track . Satos and Acculine are pretty, but ,when you fall and break off a peg , your weekend is more than likely done .
