Sorry to hear about you're crash Marc.If you need any help at home,or anything unloaded, and put up,let me know. I've broke my left one 3 times, the last one had me in the hospital for 4 days, and other breaks. I can't add anything that hasn't already been said. The recliner is the only friend right now,and those still suck. Get something for sleep thats the only time you will be at peace.Let me know if you need anything, and hope you heal up quick.
your surgeon talked u out of the surgery and now u are disfigured? thats fucked up. my collarbone was in 5 pieces and wasn't even close to straight. I had to push hard for the surgery and am very glad I did. I was jerked around by 2 surgeons. the 3rd one finally did it and got the shape to match the other side perfectly.
its a collarbone, not my face. lol there was also some pretty serious staff infections going on at the time. so I made a judgement call that Im OK with. one of our own had to have his leg amputated due to that. Mike, cant remember his last name and he never posted here but he recovered and started racing again. one time in a crash, his prosthetic leg came off and freaked the corner workers out but he was OK.
Hiccups were there absolute worst. You knew there was another one coming. And there was nothing you could do about it.
So I just want to update you Marc that the wife brought home "K Tape" roll. These things are really like magic. I put three bands on my rib location looks like hashtag # and it really helps hold things in place. I slept the first time last night without needing pain or inflammation meds. You should consider them. Even sleeping, it allowed me to sleep on my side. This is 1 week after completely separating 3 ribs. Healing process is coming along quite well. Already thinking about putting the bike back together for next season which both families are not happy about.
+1 on this. The triangle pillows were a huge help for me. Of course seeing a Specialist about plating your broken collarbone will minimize your pain/downtime. Of course with any surgery there is the infection risk. Also another thing that really helped my recovery was one of those cooling pads hooked to a waterpump/cooler/ice source. Kept the post surgery swelling down tremendously.
I was always a stomach sleeper. When I broke my collar bone it forced me to lay on my back to go to sleep. Now it's the only way I can fall asleep. Haven't had to deal with broken ribs, thankfully. Seeing all the injuries first hand locally and reading about them helped me decide to sell my bike. At 63 the risk just outweighs the reward for me personally. Started thinking too much about not getting hurt than having fun riding. Good sign for me that is was time to hang it up. Bought a dirt bike instead. Hehe.
Dang, we are one busted up group! My collarbone and associated surgery seems like a piece of cake compared to some of these horror stories. @TLR67 @05Yamabomber tell us about the crashes- this way I can convince myself that would never happen to me and disregard all of these injury stories.
Well, first race of the GNF weekend for me. Turn 1, got the holeshot and maybe was a little timid on the cold rain tires ( 80% dry track) and someone torpedoed me on the inside. I went down, my bike took someone else down, a third bike crashed behind us... I slid and was coming to a stop when a speeding bike on its side slammed into me and thats where the injury occured. Probably wouldnt have happened if I went out on slicks. I looked around the grid and all I saw were slicks! FAK! The rains were like marbles on the warmup lap. I had the lap time pace, but to finish first, you must first finish..
As someone who's allergic to morphine. It is really awesome.. whether for two broken hands or dislocated and broken shoulder, or broken ribs it helps them all!
See. The thing about sneezing is theres only one. Yeah. It hurt. But 10 mins of hiccups, that's like shooting pain every 20 seconds. And you know it's coming. The sneeze just felt like you broke everything again. Then it was over.
I am getting me one of those chiller thingys. Leaking ice bags and wet sheets suuuuuck. Thanks for the reference!
Raining Friday AM in practice... I hopped on my TL with rains on it... 2nd lap pushing up the hill before 4 3rd gear just about to shift to 4th then the back end kicked out and slammed me over the screen... I guess I held on because the bike proceeded to slam me and drag my ass up the hill and trap me... I knew I was in a bad part of the track and I was trapped under the bike.. I just knew to wave my right hand as high and wave the best I could considering I landed on the line and stayed...I think Mongo saw it on the cam and might be able to describe better..feeling better but still sleeping in a chair...
I am anti pain pills as a lot of people here. But as said previously, they do help out. I just a hernia surgery. They helped immensely. Ibuprofen is good too as it brings down the inflammation and allows your body to heal.
