I also want to address 1992 through 2001 in the context of the thread. What do you think was happening during those years (and the years leading up to it) to make a large enough portion of the population believe that income inequality was a problem that they'd vote in a socialist government?

Not an economist but I'd have to guess it has everything to do with a prospering economy, people making a good living and spending it on F150's? Just a hunch.

As for the time frame, I'd guess what happened was lotsa stupid people bought into the "only the wealthy live well BS mantra" so we need to tax the ever living shit out of them and redistribute their wealth.....you know much like what the Liberal elite pieces of shit do here. I mean why not? It's worked out so well there.

Do you really think they thought that because they were “stupid”? Do you think the wealthy weren’t using their wealth and power to influence government in their favor and against the poor?

At their core, these movements towards socialism ARE NOT born out of laziness or stupidity, they’re born out of greed. Greed of the wealthy and powerful. People get tired of being marginalized so they push back. Yes, there are absolutely greedy and power hungry people who use this to their advantage, and socialism is ALWAYS bound to fail, but it’s a natural response to unchecked capitalism.

Manufactured crisis. “The xxx is stealing from you, vote me in and I’ll give you free shit!!”

How’s that wealth redistribution working out for them? Or any other Socialist utopia?

Sometimes I wonder about the stuff posted here ....

Everybody is fukin greedy . Me , you with your have somebody else pay off student loans , the wealthy etc etc etc.......

But yet you advocate more government meddling. Makes absolutely no sense. Of course people are gonna use the govt to “get more”. And how do you want to combat that? By giving the govt more power bwahahahahaha.....

    Yeah that’ll fix it .

The people in Venezuela were most certainly stupid and short sighted . The same as the people here .

Life gets so easy people just expect it to be easy and when it isn’t as easy and they think it should be they’ll use their power of the vote to make it so . Yep that’s pretty fukin greedy right there .

If greed is a known commodity it’s easy to deal with . If you know someone’s motivation you can then deal with them and speak their language .

Where as when govt takes over they just pander to that greed in order to gain and keep power .

And when exactly did greed become bad in every instance ? Hell yeah im greedy . I want to keep and decide what to do with what I made .

This is where you are wrong. I advocate LESS government meddling. The point I’m trying to make is that these people feel they’re being taken advantage of by big business who has the support of government.

Everyone wants to rail on regular welfare for poor (or as they’re commonly referred to in here, stupid and lazy) people, but nobody talks about the billions in corporate welfare our government doles out.

The only time I advocate additional government involvement is when the issue is so big, namely education and healthcare, is when their involvement is so expansive, and the mess they made so big, that just pulling out completely would destroy the economy.

And there are a handful of things that simply shouldn’t be about money. How would a for-profit police or fire dept work out? Military for hire? Bad ideas.

Power hungry people certainly use that to their advantage, but it’s not necessarily manufactured. Socialism sprang out of situations where a small minority, usually a monarchy, lived in absolute luxury gained on the backs of a nation of peasants.

There has to be some kind of balance, and if there is an imbalance, it should tip towards the people instead of the big business/wealthy. When it’s the other way around, these movements gain traction and before you know it we have somebody like Bernie Sanders in office and we’re considering what kind of side dishes pair well with cat meat:crackup:

You're not describing capitalism, you're describing fascism.

True capitalism is self correcting. Don't like the product, don't buy. Absent coercion (like ObamaCare, mandated coverage through workplace provider, etc) the consumer has the onus to shop, compare, purchase (or not) and live with the results thereof. What's the old saying, bad news travels around the world before good news gets on its pants? Dissatisfied customers aren't repeat customers, they don't refer business, and they will explore every option available to deny you the business they don't feel you deserve.

America is great in that it makes it easy to be wealthy.... also makes it damn easy to be poor. It’s great cause it’s tailored to smart people.

    I love America.

Not sure what that list is about, I’ve been 11 of those top 17 countries, and every single one was UNLIVABLE unless you were incredibly and LUCKILY wealthy. Especially singapore, a studio flat you share at least 7-8 people was 9k USD a month. So... what’s that list about exactly?

I’m legit asking idk what’s goin on
